dregs boarding school au 📑
- st. aleksander's & st. alina's school for young men and women is a fancy ass boarding school near the university district of ketterdam. they're sister schools, with st. aleksander's being for the boys and st. alina's for the girls.
- the classes are attended shared co-ed by the students however, since the school is split up into three main parts: st. aleksander's (male dormitories with other recreational places), st. alina's (female dormitories, with other recreational places), & the actual school, which is officially known as st. ilya's
- kuwei & wylan are roommates, as are jesper & matthias. somehow, kaz scored himself a single dorm. no one knows how.
- ofc, inej & nina are roommates as well.
- they're all juniors / 11th years, except for matthias, who is their Cool Senior Friend
- kuwei skipped a grade, which is why he's the youngest out of all of them but still in year 11.
- wylan was offered the opportunity to be a senior, but finds them intimidating, despite matthias assuring him he'd fuck up anyone who tried to mess with him.
- everyone is attending on scholarship except for nina, kuwei, & wylan
- the school doesn't allow things like cellphones, and laptops are to be used exclusively for academic purposes and therefore have lots of blocked sites, so the dregs get up to a lot of their... own sort of fun.
- trouble for the teachers is, they can never get caught. never.
- example: kuwei and wylan get the science wing shut down due to an explosion? well, there's no real proof, since smoke incidentally happened to smother every camera. on top of that, kuwei does not hesitate to point out that technically it's the teacher's fault an explosion happened, since they "lied" about whether or not the main chemical was diluted by straight up not telling.
- despite the teacher's assurance that they definitely did, the cameras not only don't record audio, and the students all fervently agree that the teacher definitely did not tell.
- matthias, wylan, & jesper are all on st. aleksander's soccer team. inej is on st. alina's, and spends about an hour ranting about the evil new transfer student, dunyasha, who sees it as her job to outdo inej and make her look stupid.
- nina, the best friend she is, deals with dunyasha in her own special way. after all, "not all of us can be peaceful and serene."
- nina and kuwei prefer to just cheer like crazy people for their friends (face paint, banners, and all.
where did they even get face paint?), & kaz can't play due to his disability
- he also pretends not to care, but is always the first to find a way to subtly kick someone off the opposing team if they intentionally harm one of his friends.
- how he kept his restraint with dunyasha, lord knows.
- eventually the dregs come up with a very elaborate map of the dormitories drawn by wylan and dutifully annotated by the rest of the dregs, that they use for their own individual purposes
- matthias & nina use it to visit each other past curfew, as do wylan & jesper. inej looks at it once, memorizes it, and uses it to sometime pop into the rest of the dregs' rooms at 2:00 am, just for kicks.
- nina & jesper are those kids that will find ways to alter their uniforms without getting in trouble. sometimes jesper wears a bright green tie with his uniform since the student handbook Never Really Specified what color tie, other times nina will wear ridiculously dramatic makeup because the school simply says it allows makeup but not How Much
- jesper sneaks into kuwylan's dorm a lot to help wylan out with studying, despite kuwei's assurance that he helps wylan just fine. neither wylan nor kuwei are complaining
- a teacher once snapped at wylan for not being able to read what was on the board. somehow, mysteriously, in the same week that teacher was fired after reports were leaked of them repeatedly verbally abusing students. kaz claims no involvement because how dare you inej, you really think i'd do that? after all these years, where is the trust.
- general rule of the school is as follows: if the dregs get in trouble? you heard nothing, you saw nothing, you say nothing. you agree with all the claims they make. don't ask too many questions.
