Cas’ muscle memory draws his hand forward instinctually to heal the gash on Dean’s forehead before he can even consider the action. He stills, eyebrows creasing as he lets his hand drop to his side.
He takes a step closer and pauses, giving Dean an opening to back away, but Dean stands stock still, eyes wide and lips parted slightly. Slowly, Cas leans forward, letting his eyes shut as he presses his lips gently to Dean’s forehead.
The blue grace flows from lips to skin, tingling at the point of touch. Cas feels more than hears the shuddered release of breath from Dean. He keeps his lips pressed there longer than necessary, skin smoothed and flawless again beneath them.
With a reluctant sigh, he draws back and opens his eyes to see Dean’s own still-wide eyes locked on him - somewhere between awestruck and reverent.
Cas licks his lips, and tastes the metallic tang of blood.
