I am late for Tolkien South Asian Week. Life is chaotic as of late, but I want to participate anyways. Here is my second contribution (because tumblr is not allowing me to post the first one, saying it needs a warn when it doesn't....please tumblr let me post it!).

In historic Japan these flowers were planted around graves in order to keep wild animals away. Due to the deep crimson coloring of its petals the flower was soon believed to draw in the blood of the dead bodies beneath, earning it the epithets "Ghost Flower" and "Corpse Flower".
