maybe you were afraid, or maybe you knew,

even with the world around you cloaked,

exactly where to aim.

the stars hid their faces in shame

when we flouted their rules

but something else glowed that night

and even with your feet off the ground

no sky could swallow you whole.

maybe no one could know

whether it was wrong or right

or if love is honest of a cruel liar

let’s not turn this film scene into

the scene of a crime.

and maybe we’re just another tragedy

or perhaps there’ll be a happily ever after,

the swings took us back and forth,

and we never got anywhere but where we were

but it’s still beautiful here

and it doesn’t matter where we go now.
