A not so friendly reminder that yes, many indigenous people in the divided states have light complexions. That sort of happens when white men try to rape your people out of existence. And another reminder, blood quantum is a tool created by colonizers to erase and disempower indigenous people through said rape.
It's one of those things that gets tiresome to have to repeat. Is it pleasant to read or hear? No. But, stories of oppression and ethnic cleansing never are.
But even without that, dark or "red" skin was not universal among the indigenous here, there has always been a variety of skin tones among us. The pop culture stereotype may fit some of us in some regards, but we are not and were not a homogeneous group of people. And don't get me started on the problems with the stereotype or start on the noble savage bullshit.
To quote a post I saw before my initial blog was compromised, many of you need to come to terms with the fact that you will not be able to tell if someone is indigenous or not at a glance.
I don't think you all understand how frustrating it is to see indigenous people talk about their issues only for some random colonizer or "skeptic" to dismiss them because their complexion is not the earthy red pop culture has decided all of us have. Y'all know that being dismissive and demanding "proof" or ancestry records of someone because they don't fit the racist caricature in your head is actually really bad, right? You see how that's a problem, right?
Just, ugh. I could go on so much more, but I'll sure others are gonna be better at articulating these issues and many more than I am when I'm frustrated and angry.
