Here’s another installment of my BAe-146 “Flights of Fantasy” what-if series of illustrations, this time in US Airways’ final livery. ⁣ ⁣ After the 2005 merger of US Airways and America West, a new livery was needed to reflect the operational demands of the high temperatures at the former America West hubs at Phoenix Sky Harbor International and Las Vegas McCarran International- the the-current US Airways liver with its dark blue top half of the fuselage for obvious reasons would be impractical at those hubs. ⁣ ⁣ The final US Airways livery before their merger with American Airlines incorporated colors from the major predecessor airlines of the new combined operations along with a light gray and white upper half of the fuselage. Here’s a Flight of Fantasy BAe-146 I did a while back of a BAe-146-200 in US Airways first rebranding from USAir that took place in 1996.⁣ ⁣ When USAir acquired PSA in 1988, it also got 20 of PSA's BAe-146s which it used primarily on the California routes as most of the airports PSA used to serve were noise sensitive. However, in the wake of Desert Storm, a slow down in the airline industry caused many airlines to have to cut back on services and retire aircraft early to stem losses. ⁣ ⁣ USAir decided in February 1991 to park the remaining BAe-146s it had from the PSA acquisition (they had 18 still of the original 20).
