Authorities Warn That a Myrtle Beach Construction Zone Could See a Rise in Wrecks
Information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) on wrecks from 2013-2015 suggests that driving is risky and getting riskier for Myrtle Beach drivers who venture near a local construction zone. The intersection of Glenns Bay Road and the US Highway 17 Bypass has already caused 74 accidents each of the past two years, and the SCHP fears those numbers will go up as a construction project alters the roadway. The area is already notorious for distracted drivers, who could be much more dangerous with unfamiliar road conditions.
Will This Intersection Always Be Dangerous?
Drivers might bristle at delays and a more treacherous intersection now, but officials hope that any temporary risk will also be countered by the long-term safety benefits of the improved intersection. The US-17 Backgate has been cited as an example of a roadway that became much safer following its recent construction, with drivers adding that it now offers a shorter commute as well.

I went to college at the Savannah College of Art & Design. I studied Photography while there. At the time, art and music were really the only things I had going for me so devoting my academics to an art that I truly found great passion in was a good idea.
This is a photo I took my Senior year, as part of my Senior project that I'm going to be posting pieces from over the next several weeks. In person, I have these all printed on thin sheets of linen. Nostalgia and memories and just how intangible they all seem is a regular topic of interest on my mind. For my project I captured scenes from moments that I always want to remember, and processed and printed them in ways that showed their fragility.
This evening my friend Jennie and I took a drive down 17 South. If you want to see Georgia at it's Southern finest, this is the road to drive. This was on our way back up to Savannah. The sun was setting, the air was cool, the sky was letting off this warm, blue light that felt comforting and serene.
A year or so ago I did a really quick watercolor of this image:
