Double Trouble prelims by Noreen Porter, showcasing the two different ‘modes’ of the Glamorous Double Agent. DT changed the most from inception to final toy imo--obviously instead of this pink-and-maroon number she wound up with green-and-yellow, following an apparent blue-and-maroon middle stage with black hair and even more tulle than the final product. I imagine this one is closer to Justine Dantzer’s concept art, though I don’t have the sketches to back that up; she just used a lot of stripes and zigzags at this stage in her career, and she was big into outfit changes for the POP line in particular. My guess is someone at Mattel pointed out it would be cost-prohibitive to sell two outfits for the price of one,since this would necessitate at least a removable dress and shoulderpads. I do wish we’d kept a little of the face paint, instead of just slapping on some eyeshadow and giving her Angry eyebrows. And the mirror as a gimmick could have been pretty interesting, no? She wound up packaged with the standard comb, which I guess is fine, if you like maintaining rooted hair...
