this is my new favorite season of dimension 20.
1. story: it has twists and turns, an awesome premise and mystery and adventure about the nature of magic, power, friendship, and societal change—complete with an original mythology and system of magic!
2. characters: flawed and richly developed and unique young people who love each other infinitely finding their truths and their places in the world. heart to hearts between PCs in nearly every episode that made me cry real tears. there’s conflict, romance, friendship, and found family.
3. cast: aabria is a masterful DM, surrounded by a table of “shooters” who swing big, trust and love each other very much, and give performances of a lifetime. the improv and storytelling skills of all the cast are highlighted throughout, especially at a smaller table. danielle radford especially holds her own among the worlds beyond number crew.
3. production: from projections to live animations to practical set pieces, art of the most iconic scenes, and aabrias makeup, stunning visuals that delight the viewers and the players. an immersive experience that has you wanting to go back and rewatch for visual clues and to see the reactions of the cast.
4. system: i wrote a whole other post on this, but the never stop making magic system was a simply marvelous mechanic driving this story. it leaves plenty of room for PC creativity and vast potential for accomplishing wonders, but aabria also used it to enact consequences and set stakes.
in conclusion i will never shut up about this.
