Thinking you are uniquely undeserving of love is just another form of self-centeredness.
It came free with being human but you have to learn to overcome it.

18+||fluff|| part 1?
The rain pounded against your door as you slammed it shut. And you were left absolutely soaked in your scrubs. Much good your umbrella did after a long ass shift.
Your apartment was darker then usual. All of the lights off. Something pricked at your consciousness when you could have sworn you left the living room lamp on. Now almost everything was pitch black. Occasionally illuminated by lightening.
Feeling goose bumps climb onto your skin, you turned on the kitchen light. Just random paranoia, you told yourself.
Until there was a click behind you, followed by a low voice. "Don't move."
Your heart lurched in your chest. But you didn't move another inch. Someone broke in? They sounded like they were just in the living room. You didnt have many valuables, your just a nurse starting your career, no real money to speak of.
"Turn around." He demanded again. It was followed by a quiet pained grunt.
You did. Shaking. Your legs almost collapsing beneath you. "Please...don't shoot." You managed.
He was on your couch, his black hair plastered to his face with either sweat or rain. A gun pointed at you with one hand but the other was holding onto his side. Your eyes widened when the blood became apparent..
"You're a nurse, correct?" He asked. It was hard to deny it when you had scrubs and your hospital ID on and well, a gun pointed at you. You nodded jerkily. "I have a GSD. Stitch me up and I'll be on my way."
You hesitated. The only reason you're still alive is because of his wound. Once he doesn't need you he could just shoot you. "I'll pay you, get on with it." He said, a palor coming to his skin.
Deciding it better to listen, you ran and grabbed your first aid kit. Turned on the lights and looked at his wound.
He was wearing business attire strangely enough. You tried not to pay mind as to why he had this kind of wound. Your fingers worked carefully as you cleaned the area. The bullet appeared to have went in cleanly, staying intact. Getting it out was another story.
He tensed as you prodded. The gun was still in his hand but no longer pointed at you. "I...apologize if I scared you. It wasn't my intent."
You almost paused. He was apologizing? His head tipped back when your finally reached the bullet, groaning quietly. "How did you get this?" You asked.
"Bad decision making skills." He said, gritting his perfect teeth. You tried not to look at his face too much, but his eyes, icy blue, were hard to ignore.
"Why my apartment?" You asked again. Grabbing a needle and then thread.
"Window was unlocked and it was the first I stumbled on." He explained. Sounding so...casual. It was almost reassuring. "I just got lucky when you were a nurse."
His hands flexed when you threaded the first needle through. Then again. But he was taking the pain fairly well. You could tell he was still staring at you. Crouching near the couch to take care of him. Didn't think you'd be doing that on a Monday. "You're beautiful."
This time you did pause. Looked at him and furrowed your brows. He smiled a bit. "What? Surely you already know that, love."
Heat flushed your cheeks and you cleared your throat. "It's hard to take compliments from someone who broke into my place and pointed a gun at me."
He chuckled. "Fair enough."
A few moments later you finished the job with wrapping a bandage around his torso. Making sure it was tight enough to staunch any bleeding.
You slowly stood up. He watched. Like a predator sizing up its prey. But he didn't move. Only watched. Your heart raced none the less. Waiting. "Well?" You said quietly.
His brow quirked. "Well what?"
You shuffled from foot to foot. "What happens now?"
"You get your preety little self in your bedroom and I will leave. And clean up the mess." He said, gesturing to the blood.
"Just like that? No killing me, no taking all of my money?" You asked, purely confused.
He laughed. Actually laughed. Your face burned. "Baby, I dont need your money. And you just saved my life. It's the least I could do."
"Oh," you said. Not sure how to feel. What do you say when someone you thought was going to kill you, doesn't kill you and calls you pet names? "Will you be okay?" You finally asked.
He sat up, perfect features pinching. "I'll be fine." Then looks at you. "Thank you, for helping me."
You should pull away but you dont when he grabs your hand and presses a soft kiss to it. "Im indebted to you."
Oh. Oh wow.
You blush for a whole nother reason. Then you walk away.
β‘
The next morning the birds are chirping outside your window. Upon waking, youre immediately bombarded with the memories of last night. The man, the wound, the gun...the kiss.
Quickly you get up. Opening the door slowly. It smelled like cleaner. Invading your nostrils but in a pleasant way.
The blood was gone. You have to stare at it for a moment cause it looks like as if it was never there to begin with.
You looked around your apartment, wondering if he was still here. Then your eyes land on an envelope and a single rose.
There was no note, but a massive wad of cash. Hundreds of dollars inside. So much you had to pinch yourself and see if you were dreaming.
He did all this?
The rose stem was completely trimmed of its thorns. You stared at it for a long moment. Wondering if you would ever see him again.
