This year was actually incredible. The level and standard of every single BL on this list is what the industry should be doing DMD is making itself known as the future of the industry. This is my personal ranking of just the 10 BLs announced today and there isn’t a bad one here:

10. Passenger Seat Number X (ZeeNuNew)

A young flight attendant sees his life change when, on one of his flights, he encounters his ex-boyfriend, who’s the new CEO of the airline. This year has a lot of second chance romance, which IS NOT my sort of trope and I don’t love planes as a series setting - so this just sadly just isn’t for me so it’s at the bottom, but I know the acting will be 10/10 so I’ll be watching!

9. Within the Kings Embrace (NorthOtto)

A rising star is falsely cancelled when he won’t sleep with a powerful figure, then his ex comes back into his life and gives him a job at his bar, can they give their love a second chance? Another second chance romance, I do really like NorthOtto and stories about the entertainment industry and villain Ohm - so i hope this is more my thing! I really want to love it.

8. The Scent of Sorrow (TutorYim)

In Post–World War II, a serial killer spirit possesses different bodies, but when a couple start dreaming of these crimes, can they uncover the truth? A co-production with DeeHup, so I have mixed feelings, but it looks genuinely scary and I’ve been begging for TutorYim to get a genuinely good series for years and I hope this is it! (sidecp: TleFirstOne)

7. No.1 Student (CopperFifa)

Alan transfers to Arthit’s school and they become roommates, then their battle for bottom rank of the class begins. But they realise each other’s slacker personas are fake. I wasn’t expecting CopperFifas series to be DMDs first highschool BL but it looks different from a typical school BL, I think it’ll be fun and I’m excited. (iQiyi co-production)

6. 20 Lists (RyujinPatji)

After an argument a rich troublemaker schemes to make the school presidents 12th grade miserable. After things go too far the president is told to tutor the rich kid. As they spend their final year together it goes from the worst year to best. I am trash for cute high school BLs and RyujinPatji are finally leads and with TheeWave as the side cp… this is gonna be everything!

5. Still Holding Up Like the Moon (KengNamping)

A junior actor in the present day travels back to 1982 and meets his favourite actor, that took his own life at 25. This looks like the complete perfect project for KengNamping! It’s gonna be real and painful with some insane performances. And taking a look at Thai entertainment in the 1980s.. Now PLEASE!!!

4. Unknown Lover (ThomasKong)

A boy goes to study in New York after his boyfriend repeatedly cheats on him. Whilst there he meets a playboy who takes him under his wing, and teaches him many new things. ThomasKong shooting a mature dark gritty romance drama in New York… DMD you are making me crazy! Ah! I actually just cannot believe it! Also loved seeing Leon!

3. My Merman (TleFirstOne)

A musical series about a merman who dreams of becoming a singer. When his life becomes intertwined with a human, he sees a chance to make his dream come true. I’m biased because this is my favourite cp, but if this is done right it’s gonna be such a funny, heartwarming, whimsical series! And I could listen TleFirstone sing all day! (side cp: LatteKim)

2. 30 Days of Us (NetJJ)

After almost 10 years a couple falls out of love. When one leaves to travel to Japan the other follows, they spend the next 30 days together to decide if this is it or if they can come back together. The way I fully cried during this… NetJJ woah! Also as a huge fan of japans modern films I’m obsessed that this has been shot in the style of one! My biggest surprise of the lineup!

1. Friend Benefit (TeeTeePor)

Friends since highschool, one has feelings for the other, but the other dates a constant cycle of people. Now in university they work to become idols. This is my number 1. It’s just every trope I LOVE in a romance. And the fact it’s TeeTeePor! AND that it’s with Dexx! This is all I’m going to be thinking about for the next year! (side cp: AuauSave)

Well that was long, mostly because some of the pilots were long. Overall I enjoyed this line up. A lot of different types of stories and vibes and I never knew what to expect from the next trailer. It was definitely refreshing. Your Third and Mr.Fanboy were confirmed to be coming soon, July and August respectively. For the Khemjira special we'll have to wait until October and Zomvivor chapter 2 is officially coming at some point. Hug E-Lhee the Musical, will start shooting very soon. Also as it was previously announced there will be a sitcom coming, The D Dorm, and Poppy will be the lead which is very exciting even if sitcoms aren't my favourite genre. Magic Lover will come still this year and still with Ohm and his mystery partner that he will reveal very soon according to him at the event. Ok, now for the qls that hadn't been announced before or that didn't have trailers anyway. I'm gonna do this in the order they were shown. I added links to the mdl pages and the trailers, so if you don't want my unsolicited opinions you can just click on the links below the pics.

MDL | Pilot Did You Know - Domundi's first GL. This will be directed by Poy Pannares who also directed Petrichor and Be My Angel. I really liked the character of Prae but the rest looked kinda banal. But this is just the pilot so I'm not gonna discard it immediately.

MDL | Pilot Unknown Lover - There were a couple of these pilots that I felt like I was watching a bl short. This was one of them. I really liked the vibe of this and I think Thomas and Kong can pull it off but this one definitely feels ambitious. Which is not a bad thing at all btw if they can deliver. Ngl I gasped audibly when Leon appeared. Also surprised to see Bank in this.

MDL | Pilot No.1 Student - Adaptation of the chinese novel Fake Slackers. At some point this was going to be adapted by China but that never went anywhere. I'm not familiar with the novel so can only judge by the pilot. It looks fine. This is a first for the new dmd pair CopperFifa so while it looks kinda cute, nothing about it is really making me excited.

MDL | Pilot The Scent of Sorrow - Confession time. I am not a TutorYim girlie but it's not personal. I just haven't loved any of their shows nor was I ever a fan of their characters and at this point I don't know if it's them or the shows or me. But Khemjira gave Domundi a lot of credibility when it comes to their ability to handle the spookies and a complex story so I'm keeping my eyes on this one. Tee Bundit is directing tho and he's hit or miss for me so that doesn't fill me with confidence as well. But also, let's be real, Tle and FirstOne are here so, I don't really have a choice.

MDL | Pilot Into Racha - North is looking great with the bleached blonde. I like second chance in general and I'm curious about watching both relationship periods happening in parallel. Also yes, let's put Ohm Krit in everything.

MDL | Pilot Still Holding up like the Moon - OMG they put Keng in glasses. I was not built for this. Anyway.... This looks beautiful with a bit of sad and a healthy dose of homophobia to really make it hurt. We got timey wimey, fated mates, besties to lovers and KengNamping. Nuff said. And they better not take away his glasses and call it a glow up. Also, Mean?! That was a surprise.

MDL | Pilot 30 Days of Us - This is reminding me so much of Like Crazy, the film from 2011. It seems apropo that this one is filmed in Japan because the vibe and the visuals have a feel like the more angsty jbls. The concept is great and fresh and I'm very interested. Definitely one of the top ones from the line up for me.

MDL | Pilot 20 Lists - The highschool bl. Bully romances are not my thing usually so I didn't love the overall concept. But we'll see when the time comes I guess. Also are they gonna make Thee and Wave an actual couple here?

MDL | Pilot Friend Benefit - Theory of Love the domundi version. During this whole trailer I was in a different plane. What do you mean they gave me sunshine x brooder and now they're giving me pining bestie? Boys, I'm gonna get spoiled. This is my favourite trope. The choice of making Teetee the jerk was genius and I want to send whoever made that decision a basket of some sort. I'm so happy they didn't keep the same dynamic. I am so seated for the special kinda of delicious angst only the pining bestie can give me. Now, will I be able to actually dislike a Teetee character? I doubt it.

MDL | Pilot Uke - (Not ql but I couldn't leave it out.) We're going very meta I see. I am very seated for this. Props to domundi for even considering making this show. I think it hits very close to home for them and I love that instead of hiding from it, they decided to put it front and centre. Also, yessss unhinged Namping on a revenge mission!!! The cast looks perfect and I'm very excited for this.

MDL | Pilot Passenger Seat Number X - What do you mean they made Zee unserious? That alone made me sit up for a second. Another second chance romance. Look, we all know they have the chemistry down and can basically do this in their sleep but nothing about this story excited me too much. Also...Godt coming back to bl was not on my bingo card, like not even if I had infinite guesses. So, yeah...

MDL | Pilot My Merman - I'm more convinced than ever that domundi has hacked my brain. They knew I wanted more merman after the other one was... what it was, and so they decided to save me. They made FirstOne a merman? I mean, c'mon. I don't even mind the singing. Please, be good. I deserve goodness and merman in my life. I'll be good I promise.

Pilot Teaser Khemjira The Animation - Ngl, never in a million years would've seen this coming. I love it though. Give me all the versions. Animation can really bring this story even further and deeper and I am so here for it. Just make some good art, that's all I ask.
