The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Four

Time is a precious commodity.

Unfortunately, it’s a commodity you don’t have much of these days.

Keeping up with the exhausting training for your new career while balancing your deepening romance on top of juggling some kind of personal life doesn’t leave much time to relax!

But it wouldn’t be a Wayhaven story you’ve come to know without something new to add to that ever-growing pile…

Something stirs beneath the town of Wayhaven.

Something old.

Something powerful.

Something with a very keen interest in you.

Delve into the world of Wayhaven once more, where a new enemy is not only unleashed upon the town but unleashes its advances upon you—to your vampire lover’s chagrin.

Or if your heart has yet to find a partner…perhaps you'll succumb to the villain’s romantic attempts?

Was a back-and-forth week this week between things. I sent the next chapter over to the editor for edits after adding in the ones for the previous chapter. Except she couldn’t get far because it was kicking up an annoying error I was sure I’d fixed already.

So, I fixed it again and sent it back.

…Only for it to happen again!

Fixed it and sent it back, and it finally worked this time, lol! Really not sure what was happening with that!

Then I got a really weird glitch in Notepad++ where it deleted all the first letters of every line! I was like, ‘What is even going on this week?!’…then I realised I had scrolled one space over, so the letters were hidden and not deleted at all, lol! :D

But in having to go through the scenes and chapters again to fix all that, I got really proud of so much of Book Four! One of the things that really stands out for me that I always wanted Wayhaven to have is reactivity. Not just for the game to recognise the MC’s choices, which is important, but also other things, like in a scene, the LI might pipe up if the MC says something specific in one of the choices that doesn’t sit right with them or really does.

Or your BFF might note you’re being particularly optimistic when your MC doesn’t usually lean that way.

Or even that your MC might have said something to a character earlier and they mention it again later because it’s relevant to the conversation or another choice you picked.

It’s one of the things I absolutely love in RPG games, and what I always wanted Wayhaven to be as well but more. It’s taken until now to really find my groove with it properly. But I’ve learnt so much over the past three books, and it can culminate here!

It also does mean it’s taken soooo much longer than I planned, I know. And I am unbelievably thankful for your patience! I also want to say the most MASSIVE thank you the people over on Patreon—for sticking with me and believing in Wayhaven, even after the longer-than-expected journey it’s been!

This weekend into next week, I’ll be pushing on with the endings (they are pretty chunky, as you can imagine!), and also getting ready the next chunk of chapters for the testers and adding input needed from them!

It would've been interesting to see them have things like "not entering a place without permission" which would make a lot of their way to navigate around missions a bit different! Silverware is very subjective from detective to detective but it would've been fun to see if they had some kind of reaction to it! I like that they have their pheromone abilities, but they even mention that they don't use it a lot anymore so it feels like a wasted potential. "Compelling" with their pheromones would've brought newer angles on how they could've navigated wayhaven as a whole.
