Endings really do make me question my plans at times, lol!

After finishing one ending and all its variations last week, I moved onto the next one. I actually managed to do an opening that worked for the last ending I have too, so that’s actually ready to go for one version of the last ending (the other variation still needs a different opening).

So, that’s going fantastic, and I manage to get the main variation of it finished pretty fast!…Then I start worrying it’s not enough! But I try to ignore the voice in my head always wanting to add more, lol, and continue on to the, uh, let’s call it ‘rarer ending’.

For two of the endings, there’s actually a branch of the ending within each that will only occur if your character picks a specific set of options.

So, I was doing the rarer branch of this ending variation and it ends in a choice set, which is has to because it really needs an emotional choice to how the MC is gonna react, but that means I need to have different endings to the ending than just the ending I’d had planned.

And my brain went, ‘No. I can’t. It’s too much.’

Which is the exact moment I realised I was going to have to take a break, lol!

I don’t actually struggle with variations, I LOVE them! It adds more impact and weight, as well as replayability. And as I’ve said, it’s what makes Wayhaven what it is.

So, it was a bit of a shock to have my brain hit a major wall!

I was really, really hoping I could hang on until I’d finished Book Four completely, especially now I’m soooo close. But I also need to recognise when that exhaustion will compromise what I’m writing, and I really don’t want that now!

I will be pushing through to finish this ending, as there’s not too much left, and I hate leaving off in the middle of a scene!

But then I’ll be taking next week off to rest my brain and my hands, then be back fully refreshed to tackle the final ending and the epilogues!

It means there won’t be an update next week, but there is Unit Foxtrot’s summer scenario special going up on Wednesday for Patreon still, as well as asks on Tumblr (I think I have enough scheduled!).

Thank you so much all of you for your kind patience with this! It’s been such a longer journey than I planned it to for Book Four, but I truly think it will be worth wait! The feedback I’ve been getting from the editor and testers has been fantastic! And I’m really excited to share it with you all as soon as I can! <3

And forgive me if this is too personal, but do you ever worry that the series will be too long? Book 3 is already thrice the size of Book 1, will that pattern continue?

Incredible work of course, I just can't imagine ever working on something that long so wow to you!

Wayhaven was with me a very long time before I actually started writing it. I had been working on it since I was in my tweens, lol! It adapted and evolved obviously over the very many years, but I think that worked out better, as it meant things were very settled for me when I actually came to write it!

Things (and characters) have certainly changed and morphed from my original ideas, but the base of what I always wanted is there!

I know I say it all the time, but Wayhaven really is so much a part of me, I couldn't be without it. Not only I am very happy staying with it for so long, but I have tons of ideas for other stories I'd love to write in the world of Wayhaven!

Part of the reason Book Three was so huge is because I wasn't as organised! And my coding was horrendous, lol!

Book Four is much cleaner and more concise in many things. I did a huge amount of clean up work at the beginning of this book, which took a few months, but was so worth the effort, and will make a difference for all books going forward (I am learning as I go!).

Book Four is a monster, but that's due to branching and variations, which really are a lot in this one. To read it, it should actually be a lot smoother (hopefully, lol!).

If anyone is worried I will drop the series, please don't be! I am in this! Wayhaven is my love and my world. I will always give my everything to it!

Vampires can sense other supernaturals, usually, yes. This isn't true all of the time, as there are lots of ways some supernaturals can dampen their presence or mask their powers altogether!

They can't always identify the specific type of supernatural. That comes more down to how much experience they have. Like A and F would probably be able to identify a lot of superatural types by presence, 'cause they've been around a lot, but N and M would struggle more (even though they also have experience with other types but not as many).

They can definitely sense humans around though.

It was definitely one of those weeks where it felt like time just runs away!

Week started fab! Got a massive section completed, and one of the endings (which branched into two different endings after a choice) completely done!

So, I kept going on the roll until I got to some coding issues I just couldn’t work out. Then my laptop decided to have another wonky moment—to be fair, it’s a battered old thing that’s really hanging on for me, lol! :D

It kind of threw me off after such a good couple of days, so I instead jumped to working on the social media tasks that needed doing, then I then jumped back and forth between that and trying to fix the coding.

Managed to finally work it out (of course, it was a super tiny thing!), but everything was off course then. So, I really appreciate everyone’s patience for the update being today!

I’ll be finishing Murphy’s calendar page today so that will be up on Patreon later! Then Monday, I’ll be jumping straight back into the writing. I’m currently working on two of the possible endings at the same time, ‘cause for some reason it’s really working in my brain to do that, lol! :D

You'll be able to choose whatever you like, and the LI will have opinions or comments on the character's outfit.

i wanted to know how each of them would be acting about birthdays: is it big gesture time, noncommittal gifts, or maybe not remembering it at all?

Hm...

A would do something small but incredibly meaningful. They would want the MC to know that they really care but they can't let anyone else know, lol!

N would be big romantic birthday gestures, but surprise ones. Probably small things throughout the day leading to a big thing later.

F would also be big birthday gestures but not so much the surprise as they wouldn't be able to contain their excitement, lol! Lots of balloons, decorations, gifts—the works!

M, it's not that M would forget, but M is more of an actions speak louder than words person. So the MC might think M forgot, but then M would do something that would make it obvious M really hadn't forgotten, they just don't do balloons and cakes!

If so, would you be willing to share any of the songs you've had going for Book 4? I always love hearing what people put on :]

I don't actually usually listen to music with lyrics when I write, as it can get too distracting.

But saying that, Book Four is the only book where I have actively listened to songs for certain scenes! I had very specific songs for the ball scenes with the LIs that I listened to on repeat over and over and over (sorry, Nai, lol!) as I was writing those!

I will be sharing some playlists and songs for sure! But after the release, as I don't want to spoil the vibes coming up ;D

It's based on choices you make when interacting with Bobby—and it's not always the obvious 'nice' responses to them that make them happy, hehe!
