A first look at the rooms can be disappointing. Here you will find salmon-colored walls and tattered furniture of the variety that inhabits millions of British homes. But that's not really what's going on here.

Peer is a diligent collector of certain objects: In the living and working rooms there are libraries laden with photos and books and in every corner are items of political memorabilia: The pictures of the cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin Valentina Tereshkova hang in the living room,

Statues of Lenin and the heroes of the Cultural  Revolution standing on the cornice of the fireplace.

He has all sorts of memorabilia.  

Next to the desk in the study, hangs a huge photo of a father and son.

Peer's choices are neither decorative nor aesthetic. They reflect his interests: politics, society, communism and art.

His displays aren’t pretty for a reason. 

In the glass cabinet in the kitchen doorway are placed colorful sneakers.    

Gadgets with the photographs of Mao, Saddam Hussein, Martin Luther King Jr., and Barack Obama are also on display.

He does not want to beautify reality, not even that of his life, but to present it as it is: Simple and meager but also rich and complex. Interesting.
