Just played Undertake for the first time!

I did the neutral route❗️

I killed/spared monsters depending on how hard the fight would be but I killed dogaressa and felt so bad I spared everyone afterwards

So now I'm excited to do a pacifist run and not kill anyone :]

I know the UT community has soft spots for the pacifist and genocide routes, but I think the neutral routes are really underrated and have the best lines of the game. Specifically the ones where you give up on genocide.

You aren’t meant to feel good, just you don’t feel like a total monster depending on how much killing you do. If you abort genocide after hotland, Alphys naturally calls you out and it shows another side of her. The line “I should have killed you when I had the chance” is absolutely earth shattering coming from her, and it shows her bravery to tell you off and take charge as the queen.

There’s also the Mettaton ending where the underground just gets turned into his own empire. Very 1984, and it’s gotta be second worst ending of the neutral route. Though the ones where Undyne feels conflicted on what she could have done to stop you are also really sad. Papyrus tries to keep a happy face but also his entire world has been effectively shattered and he’s directionless.

Finished undertale neutral and pacifist.

I like the dramatic atmosphere of geno route and the themes and some characters have their best moments in this route but the ending is just disappointing especially after the pacifist ending which is pure cinema.
