"It's a strategy," Chris chimes in after licking his fingers and pushing the plate away from him. He knows the man Peter just insulted and, for once, it was undeserved. "He plays the likeable fool in front of women so they underestimate him. He actually works for the Calaveras. He's a recruiter for them."

"And you know this because…"

"My dad asked him to give me networking lessons when I was about 16." Chris cringes at the memory. "He wasn't a bad teacher… But, well, my dad was obviously unsatisfied and never paid him, and my teacher took it so well he changed country and allegiances." Chris smiles before remembering something else. "And my dad didn't let me speak in public for 15 years."

"That must have hurt."

Chris frowns at the empathetic statement and immediately looks at the werewolf on his left to make sure someone didn't just swap bodies with Peter. As if waiting for his gaze to fall on him, Peter smiles, his face pressed against his hand as he looks at him. "Want me to kiss it better?"

A persistent little smirk tugs at his lips but the hunter ends up looking away.

"Maybe later," Peter answers for him with the same cheeky tone.

To his surprise, Chris hums in response and it dangerously sounds like a "maybe". He keeps his eyes away from Peter when he eventually adds, "We should probably go back to the room."

"Do you know what will make them suspicious? Us spending half an hour in the bathroom after almost eating the wolfsbane quiche."

After a beat, Chris nods, seeing sense in that. "Right…" So he heads for the door.

"Wait."

Stopping in his tracks, the hunter's body completely freezes when he feels Peter suddenly right next to him. More than that, Peter is unbuttoning his shirt.

"What are you doing?!"

"They'll think we just made out," he says, his eyes stuck on Chris' collar, trying to perfectly wrinkle it slightly. He considers him for a second and then nods. "Alright."

But Chris stays there.

"What about you?"

Peter seems surprised by this but he still smirks. "Just ask if you want to see me disheveled so badly." With a chuckle, he turns to look at himself in the mirror and tries to undo his hair as much as he can without ruining his look too much.

Chris rolls his eyes at him being so cautious. "I see you with dry drool on your face every morning."

Peter points a finger at him, his eyebrows high. “And you're a lucky man for that.” He's completely serious, like this is something Chris should know and, at all times, remember.

Chris scoffs but his smile doesn't leave him as they both exit the bathroom. Despite Peter making it as ordered and similar to before, his hair still looks like someone ran their hand through it and pulled. Chris finds it hard to look away.

👰 - Peter Argent at your Disservice (undercover petopher)

Many things went wrong today but, at least, for once, Peter is quiet and listening to the panel. Small mercies. Chris gets to have a moment to himself and Peter… gets to learn about torture. Actually, Peter is so engrossed in the presentation that Chris thinks for a minute that the werewolf isn't even breathing. Finally, Peter shows proof of life by making a little excited gasp when the hunter presenting says the next tactic they'll show is waterboarding.

“You’ve never tried that one with me!” Peter slaps his arm in offense but his suggestive tone tells everyone around them just what he means by it.

Chris can see a young girl in their row gawking at them with open horror. Her mom pushes her back into her seat with a stern “don't look!”. 

Chris' amused grin vanishes when his attention is caught by some men rising from their seats a few rows down and whispering to each other with great urgency. Just as he's about to check if Peter is seeing this, the werewolf is raising his hand, the picture perfect of a good schoolboy. 

“Uh,...” The lecturer pauses his explanation, looking around at the people helping him on stage and the audience. He hasn't taken a single question since the beginning but, then again, no one really raised their hands before. “Yes, you have a question?”

“I presume different pieces of cloth have different effects. What kind of textile would you recommend for waterboarding?” Peter asks, genuinely interested. 

The lecturer’s face immediately lights up. “That's actually a very good question. First off, you're gonna want to…”

Peter immediately turns towards Chris, beaming with pride, almost to make sure Chris heard his "very good question". Before Chris can remind him to keep a low profile, Peter is back to listening to the presentation, nodding along as the man answers his question. Chris doesn't know if he should laugh or be scared.

🐣- Raising Alec (context clue: Liam was held back a year - senior year - so he's in hs while his friends are in college)

Doing homework on his bed, Liam sighs in relief when his phone vibrates, catching his attention and giving him an excuse to stop. He has to check what it’s about, doesn’t he? What if someone is in danger or Alec thinks he’s allergic to pineapple again!? Despite Theo saying that’s not possible… what if it is!? Reading the name of the person texting him, Liam breaks into a bright smile when he sees Mason’s name! They barely texted the last two weeks!

Liam stares at his phone, eyebrows furrowed and chin tucked back. Damn. What did he do to Mason!?

Whatever. If Mason decided to choose violence tonight, Liam will join him.

😑- Pack Parents Initiative

For their second meeting, they decided on a restaurant. A brunch place where they could sit on a terrasse and enjoy the sun. The setting obviously contributes to Melissa and Peter’s high spirits but Chris stays in the shade, looking at the both of them with squinting eyes. He doesn’t like how friendly they’re acting with one another.  

Both Mel and Peter are wearing sunglasses, sipping their iced coffee as they gossip over their waitress because, apparently, she used to date one of Melissa's coworkers. When Peter asks Melissa “does your coworker wear Chanel?”, the nurse lowers her sunglasses a tiny bit and opens her mouth in shock.

“How can you tell it's not her who wears that perfume?” she asks with barely refrained glee. 

“It's too faint. It's someone she saw recently.” 

Mel puts her glasses back with a big bright smile. Her eyes sparkle as she plots to find out more. “Wait until she comes back, I'll ask her if she saw Maggie recently. Tell me if she lies!”  

Peter's smile widens, his canines showing, and Chris frowns even deeper. Nope, this definitely isn't good news! At least, Chris would've had a person to glance at worriedly if Stilinski would've been here but, of course, he's working.

“Or maybe we could move along with the meeting?”

Mel and Peter both turn to look at him like they forgot he was there.

"They don't know about Kate and she just asked me where we were established. They don't know anything. Just like the rest of them." Peter points to the whole room, his face stuck somewhere between annoyed and resolute. "One week to try and find one person who might know something about your allegiance or Monroe's location and we have nothing."

"Someone here has to know where she is. There are too many hunters to-"

"But they won't tell us! So we're back to square one. We have nothing."

Hearing this, Chris thinks back on what Mel said earlier this week. "Which might not be the worst thing…"

"I'm not much of an 'Ignorance is bliss' type of guy," Peter says through his teeth.

"No news is good news sometimes."

With a snort, Peter glances at him. "Didn't think you had an ounce of optimism left in you. You must have stashed some for rainy days."

Chris doesn't say anything. He swallows the statement, not sure if Peter is right or simply being condescending. Or both. Yet, the only thing that goes through his head is, "Didn't you?"

He doesn't look at him but Chris can still sense him tense by his side. It seems like Peter goes through a plethora of answers in his mind and, for once, Chris is curious to know what he'll say. But the moment passes and Chris stops expecting an answer. Maybe he should've known he wouldn't get anything other than sarcasm or silence.

Then Peter straightens himself, putting back his usual fake smile on and his fake ease as well.

"I guess I burned through my stash."

The words are pleasant and said with a smile but Peter walks away immediately after saying them.
