Umeyuu's erikae: presenting geiko Umeyuu! On the day of her erikae, Umeyuu got dressed in a formal black kimono, renewed her vows with oneesan Umeyakko and presented herself to the hanamachi as a geiko. Congratulations!

Miyajimacho's most senior maiko, Umeyuu, gave a heartfelt performance of Rokudan kuzushi at this year's Fuji hanamikai! Doesn't she look wonderful among the wisteria branches?

Every August 1st, geiko and maiko dress in their formal kimono and visit their teachers and establishments they work at, giving thanks for their collaboration and expressing good hopes for the future. Wearing formal black kimono in the August sun shows their dedication to their craft! This Hassaku, you can see maiko Kimiharu and Kimiaki wearing the yakko shimada hairstyle as they are senior maiko now, and maiko Fumikiyo painting both lips, indicating she is now a second year maiko.

Umeyuu's danpatsu shiki: a ceremonial cutting of her elaborate sakkou hairstyle to symbolize her transition into a geiko. The ones closest to her: her okiya sisters, close friends and supporters participated in this intimate moment and shared their congratulations.

Maiko Umeyuu is now wearing the Osafune hairstyle, in preparation for her becoming a geiko! There's only a short time still to meet her as a maiko!

At this year's Fuji hanamikai, senior maiko Umeyuu danced Rokudan Kuzushi, and our newcomer maiko Fumikiyo danced Gion Kouta. It was her first time performing at Hanamikai, since she debuted in December. Would you like to try your hand at becoming a maiko too?

At the end of February, we held our annual Baikasai - plum blossom viewing and tea ceremony event. Geiko Ayachiyo and maiko Fumikiyo performed the obon style tea ceremony, while maiko Umeyuu and Kimiaki showed off their skills at ryurei style tea ceremony.

Maiko Kimiaki and Kimiharu performed for us, then participated in traditional mamemaki with geiko Umeyakko dressed in an Edo-period costume, geiko Ayachiyo dressed as a maiko, maiko Umeyuu and Fumikiyo!
