Brutalist Beauty: Ying Yin’s Striking Photos of Uji Station
While the city of Uji in Japan is best known for its premium Matcha and centuries-old temples, Tokyo-based photographer Ying Yin decided to turn her lens to a different kind of local landmark: the bold architecture of Keihan Uji Station, one of the city’s two major train stations.
Designed in 1995 by architect Hiroyuki Wakabayashi, the station is a stunning example of Japanese brutalism. Ying’s photo series captures its sculptural presence in remarkable detail, from its sweeping concrete arches and circular cut-outs to the way sunlight floods the open, minimalist interior. Shot with a keen eye for texture and geometry, her images highlight the station’s rhythmic design and spatial harmony.
