Amanda Nunes batters crap out of Felicia Spencer. Takes wide UD.
That was sad. Spencer got off 0 offense and Nunes just bullied her for 25 minutes. I’ll give Spencer this, she might have the best chin in women’s MMA. No idea how this wasn’t scored like 50-40 across the board. I guess Irene Aldana is next at 135lbs but it seems pretty clear there are no women left in the UFC who are viable contenders. Now if the UFC had followed my idea and just signed a bunch of women from a bunch of different combat sports backgrounds, maybe they’d have an exciting prospect.

Sean O’Malley KOs Eddie Wineland in the 1st round!
Welp, I’m sad. Huge win for O’Malley. Feints Eddie Wineland into trying to slip a punch while moving to O’Malley’s power hand side and ends up getting slept. Walk off KO for O’Malley. Not a bad fight from Wineland but it felt like he was reacting to a lot of O’Malley’s offense without knocking him off rhythm.
Spencer wins the shot at Nunes
Cody Garbrandt KOs Raphael Assuncao at the end of the 2nd!
Fuck. Just when Assuncao was finding his timing. Assuncao tried to close the round with a body kick followed by an awkward attempt at a hook. Problem is, you gotta be either all the way in or all the way out. And Assuncao was fighting from southpaw. So Garbrandt was able to whip a right hook of his own around that ended up flooring Assuncao and ending the fight at the bell. You can’t do that with these big punchers. You either got to be all the way in or all the way out. Reminded me a bit of the Bader-Teixeira KO.
Garbrandt fought a much smarter fight than we had seen previously from him. Stayed on the outside. Used his feet to avoid long exchanges in the pocket. This was buoyed by the fact that Assuncao doesn’t really have the aggressiveness of a TJ Dillashaw or a Pedro Munhoz to force the issue. Instead we got a fight where both guys were trying to counter the other one while they were coming in. And like I said it was a competitive fight up to the finish, minus a flash knockdown earlier in the round by Cody.
