New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani says his administration is not finished confronting companies such as Uber Eats and DoorDash over the treatment of app-based delivery workers.

The warning followed a city report claiming that new tipping protections have generated approximately $104 million in additional tips since January 2026.

The rules require covered delivery platforms to show customers a clear tipping option during checkout. City officials say average tips rose after the change, while weekly order volume remained strong.

Mamdani described the result as “only the beginning,” suggesting that future enforcement may also examine minimum-pay compliance, canceled deliveries, payment transparency, and account deactivations.

Uber Eats and DoorDash have disputed New York’s claims and argue that tougher regulations could increase costs for customers and restaurants.
