I love that Tyrael complains that he is so old now and it's been 50 years, and he has barely aged, like are you kidding me? You just got more fat in your neck and jaw 😭 ask Lorath how he aged in 50 years

This is purely a thought exercise, but I was forced to gripe with Tyrael's mortality lately as much as he does in "Storm of Light" and what it would mean to kill off your most iconic character.
Firstly, it's something that will inevitably happen and when it does, it has to be a good death. Either a cool thematic one, or a peaceful farewell for the most beloved good guy in the franchise. Tyrael is the staple of angels in Diablo and pretty much most universally loved. You cannot fumble his death.
There is a group of people who do wish or believe he might Ascend back to heaven if he dies, which would in my opinion undermine his sacrifice in Diablo 3. By choosing to fall, Tyrael chose death. "Storm of Light" deals with his decision to die only to give humanity another brief chance to survive, and if this is all in vain. If anything, the Horadrim are his legacy and now he doesn't even have them. Closing Tyrael's arc on a hopeful note, while not undermining his greatest moment, will be extremely difficult.
The other thing is that Tyrael is a very loose Jesus metaphor. He is Justice, he is the Heavenly Judge, and by having to judge humanity once, he is aware of their sinful and evil nature. Despite knowing this, he still chose to fall, as he also knows they are capable of greatness, kindness and love. He knows they are the only hope for existence. And he believes that they deserve to be saved. Tyrael falls out of love for humanity, and chooses to die for them and with them. This is the most defining moment of his character and it cannot be undermined or reverted.
However Tyrael could still be immortalized in some way, become a permanent part of this world in some shape or form, whether through his Horadrim or through some kind of power. Tyrael the mortal can die and will die, his body will be among the humans he fell for, but Tyrael as an idea defined by his belief, love and sacrifice for humanity will in some shape or form continue to exist. Diablo 4 had a very good theme of what it means to let go of those you regard so highly and how Akarat wished to be let go. Perhaps Tyrael will wish this for himself too. So I hope whatever happens, we will have Tyrael haunt the narratives of every Diablo game in the future, for as long as Sanctuary needs him.
Tyrael has been through every existential crisis and still stayed good and kind 💙
