I'm only a minute and a half into Sanguinarium and I'm already remembering just how GROSS this episode is
my headcanon is that musings of a cigarette smoking man is just him once again rewriting his own life. The episode itself is meta and his own version of a fluffy memoir. he frames himself as someone pitiful, likens himself to a pessimistic forest gump through framing and ridiculous quotes. The biggest flight of fantasy is that in his story, he can resign from his role. This grandiose narrative tracks perfectly with who he is: a self-absorbed psychopath. That said, I loved this ep! Very cool execution even though CSM terrifies and disgusts me. It's interesting to guess at what really happened and what didn't, what parts of his memoir are facts and which are complete fiction. My biggest wonder is did CSM really listen in on Mulder and Scully's first meeting?? If so... Fuck. What a wild episode for making you doubt everything!
