Yo. When the pronouns they/them started more widely being used for non-binary/intersex people, I heard a lot of people complaining about the plurality of the word. But... like... non-binary and intersex people occupy multiple worlds, in a sense, so they are plural. For example, in the Philippines the term bakla was originally used by Natives there to explain LGBTQIA+ people before the Spanish invaded. That word is a mixture of the word “babae” for woman and the word “lalaki” for man. So they are multiple in the sense that they have female and male energies, hence the Native American term two-spirited.
