Forever and an age ago I started rereading and adding additional commentary for my tmnt fic Two Halves but I stopped at chapter 7 since I'd finished the fic (and the manic period that led me to writing 60k of fanfic in one month jfc) but since I do want to write more for that au here's some more for chapter 8
It's crazy reading this and seeing my author's notes because my health has come a Long ways since then- i have a lot fewer bad health days, both physically and mentally. I'm also on medication to manage the mixed bipolar mania that I went through writing this fic lmfao. I used this fic specifically as a reference when my doctor asked me to explain what happens when I'm manic. 60k in one month is insane.
Karai steering Donnie away from Xever's corpse is still sweet to me. She knows he's innocent and hasn't faced death like she has. Donnie is so out of it that later he doesn't even remember he caught a glimpse
She did use magic to deactivate the electrical components of the bomb before ripping it out
Donnie is ALSO too dizzy and drugged rn to care that Karai absolutely did not have the strength to yank the thing out of his shoulder. Later on he realizes 'oh yeah she's. Not human.' and doesn't even think about it
"He was so woozy it sounded almost like a literal hiss." It was, in fact, a literal hiss
Karai used a lot of magic to get them out of the base undetected
I feel so bad for Raph's POV in this one. I keep giving him worry about his family. Even worse, the choice of having to leave his brother behind to ensure the safety of the two others? Yeah that's a rough one
Leo tripping over his own feet, spinning into the couch, and clinging to said couch while slowly sinking to the floor was based on me and my falling episodes lmao. I've done that a dozen times
I think the "two? Three months working with her??" Was Baxter counting their time while they were both still with the Foot and keeping on the downlow, but I could be misremembering
I said enough in the chapter notes about superglueing wounds lol
"Explaining to the magic murder assassin spy that she had emotions was not in his pay grade." Stockman is so real for this. But also he's like one of the FEW people who could go "You know you actually Like them, right??" and Karai would go "Wh- wait. Shit. I do??"
Karai did also use to help Xever in the interrogation room. This was partly why Xever was so terrified of her- no teenager that interested in torturing people is normal
If Stockman DID hit Donnie in the wounded shoulder and make a run for it, she would definitely compliment him on the underhanded tactic. She would be very mad about it also, but wouldn't really understand why she was mad about it. (Bbg, it's because you like Donnie)
The death Splinter was smelling was indeed Xever's, though covered up by the cleanup crew who got halfway through before shit went down. I figured I didn't want to give the turtles a heart attack thinking it was Donnie's blood lol they already saw enough in the cage
