Marlene Theory
I really do think that the Spencer twin situation was originally supposed to occur in season 4 or season 5. It would have made so much more sense and the story would have worked itself out. I think Marlene originally planned for there to be a twin switch when Spencer was admitted into Radley. It would have explained Spencer's visions, Eddie Lamb and his disappearance, and I think Spencer (or her twin) were really supposed to have killed someone the night Ali disappeared. The Cece reveal and backstory threw EVERYTHING off and took away from what the show was meant to accomplish. I'm glad she went the twin route in tonight's episode, but the timing and storyline of it was just awkward.

I'm sorry but one of the stupidest things Marlene has done is start this "lifelike" mask sh*t. I didn't mind those initial Ali masks because they were noticeably fake and added creepiness to the show. But now we have these "lifelike" masks to deal with. First of all, no mask is going to look THAT real. You mean to tell me someone could be prancing around town in a mask looking like someone else and nobody would notice? It's not Halloween folks! I know this show hasn't exactly been realistic but the whole mask crap is just utterly ridiculous and fake as sh*t!!! Another cop-out to me because you can always say any one person was wearing a mask. I can't roll my eyes any freaking harder.

Let's be honest here. If Spencer has an identical twin, and there was a switch somewhere or if the twin had scenes we thought were Spencer, it would totally make me want to re-watch the entire series over again. That, my friends, would be epic.
Could this be a parallel and a clue? Maybe the twin/AD was trying to trigger the memory from Spencer while in the dollhouse? I fully believe AD/twin were a big part of the dollhouse.

Hear me out. My ultimate theory for the last couple of years is that Spencer has an identical twin and that it’s Avery Drake. I really do think that throughout season 7, we have been seeing the twin in multiple scenes, thinking it was Spencer. I think the twin was the one going through the photo album looking at baby pictures, I think the twin is who actually asked Toby for the goodbye kiss (despite him being with Yvonne), and I think the twin is who Hanna really saw when she was being held hostage. I think the twin is A.D.. I think when Hanna was being held hostage, the twin went to her, posing as Spencer, and when Hanna said if she knew Charlottes killer she would tell, the look on Spencer’s/twin’s face was kind of an “oh shit she really doesn’t know” look. After that she hinted to Hanna how to break out of wherever she was being held hostage because she realized Hanna really didn’t know who the killer was. And notice how after this happened, A.D. hasn't asked the girls who the killer is anymore! Anyway, I think we have been seeing actual A.D. in some scenes, but we all just thought it was Spencer. Would be a HUGE twist!
