Sample Images of In-Game & Real-World Inspirations:

For this picture, I was particularly inspired by various wedding outfits throughout Asia (China, Turkey, India, etc.). Many of the traditional dresses were red, which I thought suited Midna nicely. I also used colors that might evoke the sky at twilight.

Midna's headdress has the general form of certain Asian bridal crowns with shapes inspired by Shang Dynasty bronze artifacts.

Of course, I also incorporated elements from Twilight Princess; I looked at Ordon Village, the Twilight Realm, and the various outfits of Link and the Twili.

Many designs in the Twilight Realm were inspired by the Shang Dynasty. Midna's design is also said to be inspired by the Middle East and South Asia, and Zant's design is said to have Southeast Asian influences.
