Oriental Fashion Week 2018
Hot air welcomed team Twenty6 in Paris, kicking off this years Oriental Fashion Week as part of Paris Couture Week. Just like in the Middle East the sun was gleaming and the heat blurred whatever rested in the distance. Busy streets, honking horns, Parisian attitude and swearing that still sounded chic, faced us on the way to the first venue. The pristine shows were held at the iconic Hôtel de Crillon, where the magic of the dresses and the elegance of the rooms merged perfectly. Pompous golden ceilings enhanced the beautifully embellished looks. Gems, golden threats, and shimmering silk showed why the Middle East and the Orient are used, so often, for inspiration and resources. A culture so magical, so rich, and so diverse, was brought to Paris and dipped into glamour and elegance.
Oriental Fashion Week wasn’t just to showcase glamorous pieces but also to remind that there are so many talents in the world that need far more credit than they actually get. Every designer reiterated that the West needs to understand, creativeness isn’t their privilege but exists around the globe.
The second day in the city of love and romance gave the team the chance to explore iconic streets and Chanel’s roots on Rue Cambon. We wandered around different “quartier’s” and explored Alaïa’s atelier in the vibrant district of le Marrais. After being in awe by Azzedine’s astonishing creations the team was even more excited to see the lavish collections of OFW’s evening designers. A dazzling show held at Paris’ Peninsula, accompanied by an incredibly talented Sopranist, reinforced the energy of the East and made us fall in love with glitter, gold, and glamour. The Peninsula also carries a long history of oriental culture, making it one of the most prestigious hotels in the world. Together with OFW it provided a magical venue. The roof terrace offers romantic views across Paris, embracing the monumental Eiffel Tower. Paris’ Peninsula is not only a five star hotel but also received the honour to be called Palace, as it really represents the top of luxury.
Future will tell what is next for the designers, elegant impressions remain in our heads and inspire Twenty6 to look into the distance and embrace the talents of the orient.
