And I know it was like, 2000s, 2010s, and before that it was 1960s-80s, but still, I kinda wish that the first explicitly romantic thoschei moment wasn't M/F. Like, they've been gay for every appearance before Missy, but then they're only allowed to be explicitly romantic when it's straight/looks straight. And then we haven't gotten another gay Thoschei since, which is just a shame.

So much is counting against gay Thoschei being explicit. "Can't have the Doctor be gay" turns into "can't portray this unhealthy a queer relationship." But it's still homophobia. Not as big a deal, sure, but it's homophobic to let straight Thoschei get to be romantic and get to be fucked up, but not let queer Thoschei do the same.

I don't think we're going to get queer explicitly romantic Thoschei, at least in the show, any time soon. There's too many hoops to jump through — first it's gay, second it's toxic. But I really hope there is.

God, I wish we got the Fiveainley book, this would've fixed everything, they deserve to be divorced.

Don't worry, criticising the "redemption" arc in s10 will never be too hot or cold for me, though I guess for me it's less about morals and personal development than about poetics... Like, what exactly do you do with a "redeemed" Master? Are they now to be tag-alongs? Jack or River-alikes, except more long term because of recasting potential? Let's be real, the most honest thing to do would be killing them off, in which Moffat was true to what the story demanded if in nothing else!

But yeah, the twissy kiss is one of those things that work great on their own until you start contextualising them. I'm not as cynical as to think Moffat first decided he'll do the first thoschei kiss and then cast a woman for the Master, but yeah, it still feels like the relationship was made explicitly romantic only once it was hetero looking. Piled up with the judging by Sherlock actual belief by Stevie that you can just be "above" sex? Then why go for an explicitly sexual gesture (talking about having Missy make 12 grab her boob #subltety)? Thanks, this asexual does not agree. Like, that press article saying that this was the "introduction" of romance into the relationship. The fandom can laugh all we like, but for a good deal of the audience this was the case. Not helped by making the case of Saxon in s10 being purely antagonistic towards 12.

Would it have violated either actor's contract sooo much if John Simm got to smooch Peter Capaldi too? It's not like the twissy kiss made much narrative sense in the first place, just have 12 grab Saxon's arm as he's about to leave in TDF and do a looong, spinning camera and all, French kiss shot, before the latter pushes himself away in fake disgust or sth!

As to the potential for a same sex looking thoschei kiss in forseeable future... Well, for one, I am in a definitely hot thoschei take group saying the Master does need a break in general, it just really doesn't make much sense to bring them back until it's established or forgotten how the Doctor feels about the whole ttc thing and Gallifrey in general, so there's that... That is, unless RTD, or whoever takes over from him, will bring back the character in a way that doesn't revolve around the personal relationship, it's not like the world lacks for power crazed people right now, arguably more deserving of parodying as a maniac from space than Tony Blair ever did... But even then, I think a cool down on the Doctor's part is needed for their next interaction to not come off as either too detatched from latest developments or too antagonistic to focus on political parodies. So there's that.

But I think the 15/Rouge kiss is a good sign?... Apparently the mouse did give moneys for that, so, cultural winds granting, they'll go along with, if not physically, then at least verbally romantic thoschei?

Just, IDK, show how progressive and conservative at the same time you are, big company, and show the tragic results of an unthoughtthrough divorce or sth!
