the bear s2e9 omelette - strange currencies by r.e.m.
little bit of sound design i really enjoyed, how they conveyed carmy's panic attack with the music being overlayed with discordant sounds and the music itself gets distorted and twisted, then we get some calm when syd comes in to smooth out his brain and the music so we can breathe again. also, this show sends the funniest mixed signals

the bear s3e1 tomorrow (together by nine inch nails)
from the polar opposite of the pitt, and with mixed reception, this opening episode in s3 of the bear using nine inch nail's instrumental track together for the entire episode... just beautiful. it 1000% worked for me and is exactly the type of video edit i would do (see: my lost in translation edit). the music has a vaguely melancholic tone with almost the impression of sirens pulsing in and out, but tinged with hope and light, as we travel back and through carmy's life until we met him, reckoning with his meltdown in the s2 finale and attempting to moving forward. but ultimately it can serve the same goal mentioned with the pitt in forcing a viewer's attention with the lack of dialogue.
and funnily enough, the next episode in s3 has no music except for the opening credits/montage love letter to chicago food and service workers and the closing credits.

As you get more immersed in the storytelling, hopefully you realize very quickly that you don't have the objectivity of looking down on this pit, you're inside this pit with everybody else.

well i didn't think anything would slam my feelings buttons like the hannibal score, but the leftovers has taken over title. been sidetracked with other things but thought i'd do another little no context gifset and one of the lines i'm grabbing from the pilot is in this scene with this music and dear LORD. reitzel's bloodfest in hannibal is like DESPAIR love and the various themes from richter are like, LOVE FAMILY GRIEF DESPAIR LOVE LOVE LOVE. all the feelings everywhere all at once.
another great thing about the leftovers, lovely musical score. by max richter, no less (may recognize his recomposed vivaldi and certainly on the nature of daylight which has been used in *so much* media)

only made it into the title credits for e2 of alien: earth but a tiny snippet of music got me looking for the score, and I think what was used in the titles was a distorted (read: sounded cooler) bit from this song, I've been listening to it a lot recently. I want to like it more than I actually do yet I keep listening to it. it kind of reminds me of not great music made for a Netflix original, but a little more original? lol 😬

this kind of thing makes it insufferable sometimes (to be inside my head trying to watch something) because i keep hearing this incidental music in silo and i'm like, i feel like i'm wandering around a video game and it's dark. whhhyyy. then i determine it sort of ~feels like~ elder scrolls oblivion. so now i gotta go load it up to compare the music. which i mean. it's not that similar. but it's enough to be clanging this bell that's very distracting while i'm trying to watch a show. also ps it's rude to me personally they put these two women together but not Together.

this music is hitting some very melancholic weepy button in my brain and i think it's because it reminds me of something, but what i have yet to determine. but the intimacy and vulnerability of the phone call, the pretending to sleep. it's a lot.
