#WorldTsunamiAwarenessDay is celebrated every year on 5th November. Tsunamis can be deadly and present several health hazards. The day is observed to create awareness among people about the ill effects of this environmental catastrophe and ways to mitigate them.
Tsunami pose a significant threat to nuclear power plants, airports, and other major critical infrastructure either already built or planned in coastal areas.
Tsunamu risk should be incorporated into national and local disaster risk reduction strategies and early warning, preparedness and education policies.
Investing in resilient infrastructure, early warming systems and education is critical to saving people and protecting their assets against tsunami risk in the future.

Promote target (f) of the "Sendai Seven Campaign" which aims to “Substantially enhance international cooperation to developing countries through adequate and sustainable support to complement their national actions for implementation of the present Framework by 2030.”
In 2021, World Tsunami Awareness Day will promote target (f) of the "Sendai Seven Campaign" which aims to “Substantially enhance international cooperation to developing countries through adequate and sustainable support to complement their national actions for implementation of the present Framework by 2030.”
By the year 2030, an estimated 50 % of the world's population will live in coastal areas exposed to flooding, storms and tsunamis. Scaling up international cooperation to developing countries will help ensure that 100% of communities at risk of tsunami are prepared for and resilient to tsunamis by 2030.
Decisions and resolutions adopted in June 2021 at the 31st Session of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (UNESCO/IOC) will further boost global efforts to strengthen tsunami preparedness. The UN Ocean Decade (2021-2030) will provide “a once-in-a-generation opportunity” to improve tsunami detection and early warning systems “even from the near instant they form, and to enhance the preparedness of coastal communities for tsunamis through the UNESCO/IOC Tsunami Ready Programme.
World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD) on 5 November marks the 6th edition of WTAD and the 6th year of the Sendai Seven Campaign.
