which i feel was an unusual choice (i'm not sure any student can really be a 100% convincing odile) but actually worked relatively well in terms of having lots of variations for different graduates to dance (especially in the grigorovich act 3 -which has all the brides/princesses in pointe shoes), a star female role and two male variations.
I find Odile is an easier role than Odette. Yes, a 17 year old probably has little experience in being seductive, but the white swan needs a kind of purity, spirituality, tender emotionality, and deep melancholy that's even harder to understand, let alone bring to life. You can do the black swan just technically, it won't be very good, but it will be dignified. You can't just do the steps of the white swan, the part demands the soul.
So I find Zakharova made a good choice for the school, given they have a lot of strong girls, and at least one VERY STRONG partner. Congratulations to the Prince, this is a very difficult part to do too.
I think the white act was the wrong choice for Morozova. I find Nikolay made a choice that was not in her best interest, she's not THAT strong technically or acting wise. They should have done Gardens of Naina, which was last presented in 2016, with Kovaleva as the lead.

Honestly? I would try to mind my own business, do my job to improve, and try not to cross him.
Whether you like the teacher you end up with, there's only so much you can do. At the end of the day you WILL graduate under them, whether you like the teaching style or not. Talent shines either way, and NT personally loves a hard worker, so you can be one or the other (if not both).
And even if your teacher ends up not liking you for whatever reason (sometimes they just dislike you because you breathe the wrong way) remember, you WILL be free of them one day. Just keep a low profile and do your job.

Last time I requested assistance in finding vids, you all came through. I'm hoping to watch this year's exams for Tsiskaridze's class. I've only seen a five minute clip from the floor but that's it. (And it was…..different.) I'm also a busy working mom — and probably ancient in your eyes — so help an old lady out, please?! I'm eager to watch.
In defence of tsiskaridze… he came to the school in 2015, which means he’s been rector for the whole time Koshkarova, Valiullina, Kuprina, Karamysheva, Gritsina, Barinova, Zakota, Solomina, Kishnova, Efimova and others were in the first grade. And they are beautiful dancers, like I think we are overestimating the changes happening. In addition to this, the class that Tsiskaridze took over was a “weak class” (I swear these are his own words from an video with Ilya), and they look good in the exam, even though it’s not pure vaganova. However we don’t know they’re day to day classes. We don’t know if during class they do plain vaganova pure exercises, and then tried something new and a bit bonkers just for the exam. I wouldn’t be surprised, and it would explain why the exam isn’t super clean, maybe they don’t do these crazy exercises every day, just they put on a show for their exam, which is objectively more fun to watch, and maybe it’s more fun for them to execute, like the little variation breaks? Bonkers, but fun! We can’t forget how passionate the Russians are about the art of ballet, they are so passionate and they are risk takers!
Meh... from the dancers you mentioned the only one I personally think has potential is Valiulina. Maybe Barinova, I haven't seen much of her.
"They look good in the exam" is VERY subjective. I don't want to be harsh or mean, but if I was grading, they wouldn't be up to my standard. I would at least expect the working leg to not turn in in grand rond de jambes.
Maybe the everyday class does look different, but that's exactly the problem. Exams are not performances. They're not meant to be piano concerts with visuals. It's supposed to be exercises, boring even. It's supposed to be a checklist of all the steps required to show, not a choreographic manifesto. You show what you've worked on.

It's so strange that we know a little bit about half of the 8th class because NT posted the exam results, but for Julia Kasenkova’s graduating class, all I know is that Sonya Romanovich is top of her class and that she’s friends with the Italian Magda Scaccabarozzi.
As for the girls in the 7th year, I think we know almost nothing—I haven’t even seen any exam photos from Kovaleva’s class. I’m not sure who’s teaching the parallel class either. Maybe something happened, or the girls are just very private, which is fair enough.
But with the girls in the 6th year, it feels like I know them personally! They’re always posting, and I swear I've basically figured out who’s friends with whom, and so on.
I do have a question, though. Last year, when they were in the 5th year, there were three parallel classes. Is it normal to have three parallel classes in the 5th year? Or was it an exceptionally strong year, so they didn’t dismiss as many students, leaving them with three parallel classes instead of the usual two?
NT is advertising himself, that's why we only see his own classes. A few years after he became director, he forbade all videos from classes and exams to be posted online because they are a part of the methodology and shouldn't be published. A few years later his own 8th year exam video was posted on the VBA official account, and it's only been his classes ever since. That is on purpose. He is advertising his own work, his own choreography, he'll never post Kovaleva, Vasilieva, Kasenkova, or any other teacher's class.
To be honest, I prefer the not posting approach, from posting all the time, in general for kids, I find it very strange when they post everything about their lives online. I definitely think that posting so much opens them to criticism from people, of course people compare Aziz and Furman, because they see so much of them. It's not the girls' fault, but it would not happen if we didn't even know their names, like with year 7 like you said.
I think it's normal to have 3 classes in year 5 and 2 in year 6. If there are enough students passing the exams there's no reason to have 2 classes of 15 people instead of 3 classes of 10. Typically though people get kicked out before year 6, I don't think I've ever seen 3 classes in the upper school. I could be wrong though, I don't follow students closely (or much at all). As far as I know, there's no cap of how many students a year can have.
