"no! you purposely spilt that drink all over my brand new white ralph lauren polo." rafe barked, very loudly you might add so that a few heads turned. so what if you did? he's sure enough rich enough to buy a bunch more, he just wamts a reason to shout at you. by this point, you had walked off, already feeling the headache coming on.

you had knew since last week that stacy was planning a party, after all, she was one of your closest friends. you outfit, hair, and how you were going to do your makeup was all planned out already.

but then you found out rafe was going.

and suddenly, nothing about the night sounded fun anymore. you could already see it, rafe with some girl on his lap, a red solo cup in hand, probably high out of his mind and shouting something stupid across the room. or worse, shouting at you.

it made your chest ache - not in that i-still-care way, at least that’s what you told yourself. it was just frustration. exhaustion. from dealing with the same cycle over and over again.

it made you reminisce about your childhood days, days where you would play all day long with him without any arguments, okay…maybe only a bit, but it was fun, and it before everything went downhill.

now? you barely recognized him. and worse, he barely recognized you.

anyways, back on track. yeah, you're not going anymore. nope! can't do it.

“no! like, you have to come!” stacy groaned through the phone.

“i just don’t want to,” you sighed. “he’s so irritating. and I don’t even know why he’s always invited to everything.”

stacy was quiet for a beat. then, “well… i invited everyone. it’s not like i gave him a personal gold invitation or something.”

“still,” you mumbled. “i’d rather stay in bed and rewatch 10 things i hate about you in my pajamas.”

a pause. then Ssacy's voice perked up. “that cute guy from science is coming.”

you blinked. “alex?”

“mhm,” she said sweetly. “so maybe you could come. just hang out with him. you don’t have to even look at rafe.”

you hesitated.

on one hand, she had a point. on the other, the thought of rafe watching you talk to another guy made your stomach twist - though whether it was dread or satisfaction, you didn’t know.

“fine,” you muttered. “but I swear, if rafe says one word to me…”

“i’ll throw my drink at him for you,” stacy promised.
