"I hope you do not mind this, Mioda-san," Sonia spoke cheerfully though carefully. It wasn't a fear of being overheard: in the crowd, that was more than likely to happen. It was to keep Ibuki's feelings from being trod upon. "I believe Saionji-san very much wanted to attend the summer carnival with you and Koizumi-san. But Yukizome-sensei arranged the partners for this trip: I truly had nothing to do with it. I do feel awful for being the cause of her tears and complaints, though."
Beside the musician, Sonia walked, making great effort not to trip in her wooden sandals. High heels, she had plenty of experience with: but the shoes acquired to coordinate with her yukata were something else entirely. They offered no support and if she tried to move too quickly, the wooden soles would smack into both her foot and the stone stairs near the shrine with a loud 'clop clop clop',, almost as if the Ultimate Princess was a horse trying, unsuccessfully, to prance. Hardly graceful, but she smiled nevertheless. The booths and amusements that surrounded them were enticing, from various festival foods, to games of chance, to shops selling all sorts of trinkets, to a few rides: a large revolving swing with plenty of seats, a ferris wheel, a carousel. A combination of East and West that neither anime nor guidebook could have prepared her for.
And of course, the company of a friend. Sonia didn't know Ibuki terribly well: she seemed far closer to the likes of Hiyoko, Mahiru, and Tsumiki. but that hardly mattered: she always seemed so excited, so energetic, during classes. She could turn lemons into soda, or was it wine? Regardless, she encouraged dour moods and situations into ones of exhilaration. The blonde admired that about her, that and her unwavering commitment to her own identity: no one, it seemed, could tell Ibuki Mioda who or what she needed to be, especially when it came to personal style and taste.
"Oh, a stage!" Sonia paused on their walk. Initially she'd suggested an expedition through the festival at first before deciding where they wanted to try food first, but her blue eyes caught sight of a stage lit up in fairy lights and adorned with banners and signs. Several stands of some sort had been arranged just so: as if they were anticipating guests. "I wonder what sort of performance it is? Mioda-san, do you know? It would be wonderful to have a thrilling musical act, don't you think? Like some of your songs!"
