im ditching truenas for a diy debian install.
reasons:
truenas refuses to copy to another truenas despite supporting it
truenas removed the easy way to set S.M.A.R.T checks for my disks
middleware makes my skin crawl
pros:
i get to fiddle with the computers again
i get a better understanding of the storage solution
i get to bully truenas users
cons:
i have to fiddle with the computers, again
probably a bit of swearing when the solution fails
risk of data loss
fingers crossed i do it right and avoid nuking 4TB of data
(for those worried (me included) i have a third copy offsite, dont worry)
