Donbros Kaito: I befriended your mother last night.

I did a screenshot post a while back about Komagine Kiita's character Goshikida Kaito from Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger. The idea was to show fans of KK who weren't familiar with his tokusatsu work what that was like and maybe give Zenkaiger appreciators an excuse to think back on the show.

The funny thing is, Komagine Kiita also had a role, one that was somewhat less prominent but still integrally important, in Avataro Sentai DonBrothers, the Sentai series that immediately followed Zenkaiger. And this time he played a character named...Goshikida Kaito. Oh, you might think, Kaito from Zenkaiger shows up on DonBrothers. But no. Well...we don't know. This guy's name is Goshikida Kaito. He owns a coffee shop called Cafe Donbura that is clearly in the same space as Kaito's grandmother's candy shop in Zenkaiger. (It’s the de facto meeting place for any DonBrothers business, among other things.) He can also transform into Zenkaiser...sort of. When he transforms, he becomes Zenkaiser Black. His suit is the same, except that where Zenkaiser's had rainbow stripes, this guy's has shades of gray and black. Is he the same person as the Kaito from Zenkaiger, only something happened to him? Is he another version of Kaito from an alternate reality? Something else entirely? We don't know!

I'll tell you what we do know, by way of a second screenshot post for the second Goshikida Kaito.

DonKaito, as he's often known by Sentai enthusiasts, is a mysterious dude who likes to read.

He's often sardonic and a little bit condescending...

...but we get occasional signs that he's just as big of a dope as the other Kaito.

He either doesn't know the other Goshikida Kaito's catchphrase, or pretends not to.

He has no qualms about going out to fight evil or keep tabs on the DonBrothers in his cafe uniform.

He knows how to do magic surgery, among other things.

If there's a food item the team needs for some reason, his cafe always seems to have it, no matter how obscure it is. (This comes up more often than you’d expect.) Sometimes he has obscure non-food items too.

He's often flummoxed by his part-time employee Kitou Haruka, a.k.a. Oni Sister of the DonBrothers, though he gives as good as he gets.

He's very good with customers when he wants to be, like when he calmed a high-maintenance lady with a hand kiss...

...and was rewarded with a nose boop.

He declared himself the MVP of the DonBrothers despite not actually being a member of the group.

DonKaito once saved the DonBrothers from getting too conceited by accepting accolades on their behalf, which resulted in him getting his own photobook.

Then, after he showed up for a date with a ghost in a glamorous outfit...

...and got mobbed by admiring ladies...

...he ended up putting out yet another photobook.

The fact that these photobooks don't actually exist is a travesty, by the way. (Sadly, the ad for DonKaito photobooks shown below is fake.)

He's known by people with inside knowledge on the DonBros universe as the True Hero, and he has a thing going with the True Rival, who bears a striking resemblance to Stacey, the reformed Demon Prince of the Tojitendo from Zenkaiger. Or maybe he is Stacey. Who knows?

Of course, since he's played by Komagine Kiita, DonKaito is also a stone cold fox. If you're still in doubt about that, there's some more evidence in the birthday post I did for KK's birthday a few days ago.
