Today is the first day of the trans rights readathon!

I decided to go through some of the books I've read in the past few years and highlight some with trans main characters or authors. I've summarized them all with one short sentence, but a few have appeared in other posts with more in-depth reviews:

I've read a lot of books by trans authors and/or featuring trans characters, and this page features some of my very favorites. There are others I love, as well, and some have been starred on other lists, but these are ones that have stuck with me or I have revisited.

The Prospects by KT Hoffman - A baseball book that will make you want to be a baseball person (if you already are a baseball person, this is a must!)

Dead Collections by Isaac Fellman - This story took the top of my skull off and rearranged my brain a few years ago. I'm hoping to re-read this one with a pen in hand soon

Falling Back in Love with Being Human and I Hope We Choose Love by Kai Cheng Thom - Two gorgeous collections of poems and essays that are both deeply personal and relatable

Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead - Not an easy read, but one that really made me think

For the Love of April French by Penny Aimes - I really enjoyed how this literary romance was structured, very clever use of POV

The Companion by E.E. Ottoman - A lovely dream-like cottage core fantasy without the actual fantasy novella - self-indulgent in the best way

Of the Wild by E. Wambheim - Prepare to cry a lot at this fantasy novella! Really beautiful, but also really sad; ultimately hopeful

Boys Weekend by Mattie Lubchansky - A near future dystopian horror about being dead named for an entire weekend while the world falls apart around you! Funnier than it sounds, but also OOF

Matchmaker by Cam Marshall - This collection of pandemic comics is my best recommendation for QUEER JOY. I laughed a lot at these roommates' antics and struggles with capitalism and our modern plague - I've re-read this multiple times

Snapdragon by Kat Leyh - Middle grade graphic novel with a couple of intersecting story lines - I believe this also made me cry, but not buckets

I Shall Never Fall in Love by Hari Conner - Frothy Regency Fun! Another graphic novel, highly recommend the author's note about the historical precedence and evidence for queer people and people of color throughout England's history.

a little bit late! i won't be starting these until i finish writing my final thoughts on nona the ninth, but here are the books i'll be reading for trans rights readathon 2026! i don't think i'll be able to finish all of them, but i'm gonna do my very best lmao
