Steve disappears - no message, no mission - it’s like he drops off the face of the Earth--- it’s hard to hide the disappointment that curls in Tony’s stomach. Weeks pass and as he’s ACCIDENTALLY listening to Fury’s and Maria’s conversation - he hears Steve’s name mentioned.
It had taken quite a bit to get even the basic the information out of Fury as to what happened - Tony still suspected, the director did not share all the information with him, but right now, it was the most Tony was going to get. Knowing where Steve was, he took a flight down to Washington the same afternoon. For once he decides to keep it low-key, so when he strolls into the hospital, he's wearing just a pair of jeans along with a t-shirt and a hoodie - sunglasses still sitting on his nose even after he passes through the door. He approaches the receptionist and with a wide, charming smile that perfectly hides how anxious he feels.
After showing her his SHIELD identification - to which he briefly glances at him surprised before mumbling Steve's room number. "Thanks." Stark says with a blinding grin before heading off. It takes him a while to find the exact place, but when he does he’s suddenly too nervous. He sucks in a deep breath before knocking on the door and peeking in, just to see Steve asleep soundly on the hospital bed. There's a half-empty coffee mug on the side table, but Tony ignores it as he walks towards the chair to sit down.
It creaks under his weight and when he looks up, back at Steve, he's met with the blue gaze fixed back on him. "You look---- ROUGH." Is all that comes out as he cracks a smile.
