#3375 - Fam. Trogossitidae - Bark-gnawing Beetles
The WA Gould Society held a event at the Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre, in Perth's northern suburbs, and invited environment groups from all over Perth to run tables and promote themselves. The WA Insects Study Society was one such, and this beetle grub fell out of the tree we were set underneath.
Trogossitids are a small family related to the Clerids, but it's smaller now than it was before 2019 when a third of the species got shuffled of to other families. Some 400 remain.
Both larvae and adults are either predators or fungivores, and are usually found on or in bark.
