Just like every aquatic thing in D&D, tritones receive very little use by the Greeks. They are the plurification of the god Triton, Poseidon's fish-tailed son. Most of their appearances has them belonging in the retinue of Poseidon and other sea gods, preforming the duties of squires or servants. The nereids are often alongside them, acting as the male-female counterpart as seen in maends and satyrs. Tritones are bound to the water for the most part. When Dionysus went around introducing wine to the world, they could only get it at the mouth of a river which flowed wine, directly to the sea. The only other instance the tritones take main-stage is at the pickled corpse of one, which was showed off in Tanagra. This particular triton was a brute that attacked women and ships alike. He was killed either by Dionysus directly, or by the Tanagrans setting out wine for him on the shore, which he drank and fell asleep by, and slashing his head off with an axe. It was displayed, showing a broad nose, gills beneath their ears, rough, shark-like scales, and the teeth of an animal. And, uh, that's it. This is where world-building has to come in, to fill in all those huge gaps. Tritones are deserving of the title "satyrs of the sea" because that is truly how they live and act. Minus the wine. Without access to agriculture and metal-working, these beings are more underdeveloped than their kin. They eschew metal and manners not because they have to, but because they lack these resources. On their own they live in small groups fishing and tending seals. The sea gods keep seals like those above keep sheep and cattle, so perhaps some get by tending to them for the gods? Either way, their life is still harsh. The Mediterranean is full of sea monsters and only Poseidon can reign them in. Those that keep to themselves, near the shore, get by like ogres or phasma, haunting people and stealing whatever they drop. It's no wonder the majority live in the retinue of Poseidon, where they can enjoy the luxuries of the ouranic gods and earn glory by serving the deathless ones. This triton is a typical high-born one. He's a standard-bearer (or, conch-blower) for some minor sea god. His gold ear-ring and leather waist plate are signs of status. A lack of direct sunlight means he and his kind are paler than the land-dwellers.
