🇧🇷 Rio de Janeiro has been a much anticipated city for us though not often because of excitement. Amanda's been here before and was fine but everybody we've met in South America has shared a word of warning about the city. Luckily for us we experienced nothing of the warnings. We saw a city of beautiful (and not so beautiful) contrasts and felt energised by the vibrant, often bustling, streets. The Favelas are a tourist icon to the city but also a place where 20% of the inhabitants call home. With restrictions to the land often houses are built on top of each other resulting in a image of Lego building blocks lazily stacked on top of one another's. 🇧🇴 We had only spent a short time in La Paz, Bolivia but the city definitely left an impression. The city's history both past and present is interesting to say the least. The world famous San Pedro prison kind of sinks into the background of the bustling city but this clock atop of The Congress Building sure did take our eye. The clocks numbers are backwards and its mechanism goes in the opposite direction to mimic the actions of a sundial in the Southern Hemisphere. It's symbolism also reflects Bolivians looking back into their cultural heritage and showing appreciation to their two main indigenous tribes. We will be a bit silent over the next week or so. We are taking a couple of expeditions that have us out in the wilderness again without wifi. Honestly the total disconnection hasn't phased us at all.
