#tricolor

i really love the structure of Tricolour with its three districts. it makes it a little challenging to scale for realism compared to nations like Luminara or the Commonwealth (because, as opposed to being a Nation with several smaller, acquired States, it is a Kingdom with Districts) but it also makes for clear, unique settings!

currently, making use of the Scarlet district is requiring some changes. canonically the Scarlet district is entered via one (?) long tunnel and that really doesn't lend well to. you know. secret rendezvous between high-ranking officials. but i want to use it for that purpose. SO, here are the changes i'm making for my fic:

Scarlet is not entered via a long, deep tunnel but rather a massive cave mouth. i'm picturing an entrance three times as wide as it is tall, around the size of maybe half a harbour.

there are three tiers to the Scarlet cavern, and each of them spread far into the cavern walls. they are all tightly packed with buildings to make the most of the limited space.

the uppermost tier is a large ring (on the same level as the entrance) around almost the entire cavern where public-facing shops, lodgings, and services reside. this is the most well-lit tier and it sits underneath the hill upon which the Verdant district is built.

the middle tier is a large ring surrounding the entire cavern with a large natural bridge through the centre. in the centre of that bridge is a water source which is supplied by a stream from the cave ceiling and feeds into the lowest level of the cavern. many walkways span from the bridge to the ring. this tier provides most housing and less public-facing services/shops.

the bottom tier is the floor of the cavern and is centred around a large underground lake, supplied by the above water sources. this tier is only very well-lit around the lake, as it serves as a recreational (and practical) hub for the district. down here there is some housing (mostly attached to workshops), but it is mostly dominated by mining, smelting, and smithing operations.

greenery all over the place!! especially surrounding the lake and the bridge-pond. lots of oil streetlamps and people carrying candles or lanterns. blackstone load-bearing columns with the Scarlet banner.

as it is underground and aptly named Scarlet, this district is known for its rough-and-tumble population and for having more seedy establishments...if you catch my drift.
