Trick-taking games (like Hearts, Spades, Bridge, Tarock, Whist, Belote, Rook, The Crew and many others) have a problem, in the form of a bit of terminology that has become unfortunate in recent years: they have so-called "trump cards".
Now of course, trick-taking games are hundreds of years old (in fact they are the original card games, other types of games played with cards came later), and so it is a coincidence if one of their rules happens to reference the name of a famous nazi, but that is nevertheless not an excuse to remedy this situation — outdated terminology is replaced all the time, and so e.g. the French is moving away from using the n-word to mean "ghost writer" and instead having revived the more ancient and more palatable replacement term "prête-plume" (quill-lender), even tho when the French n-word was first associated with that meaning, it didn't yet have the extremely negative connotations it has nowadays, but as language changes so must society adapt.
This is why I suggest that the terms of "trump cards" and "trump suit" be replaced by something with less negative associations. Of course the new term still needs to be short and snappy, and it needs to put the "trick" in trick-taking. Ideally, it should be associated with a much less controversial historical figure too.
This is why, henceforth, "trump cards" will be called "dick cards" instead.
