Planning our trip to Paris!
Going to Church, Part I
But hey, it's okay because my professor, Nina, gave our class a guided, historical tour of the cathedral, and it was a lot more than I would have understood if I'd gone alone! Roskilde Domkirke is famous for three main reasons:
It's super old, ca. the 12th century
The Danish monarchs are buried there
Since it was built and expanded over a long period of time, it's a hodgepodge of architectural styles, but mainly Gothic and Romanesque
I'm happy I finally saw Roskilde Domkirke, and it was exciting to see the iconic twin spires of the cathedral as our train pulled into the station! We didn't have enough time to tour the whole thing, but we saw the highlights. Everyone was more or less okay with this, because Roskilde was colder than Copenhagen (typical)...and we were basically walking around in a crypt.
No, literally, there were people even buried in the floor of the church and we were allowed to walk on top of them.
I also had the opportunity to give a shout-out to my old station, Trekroner, and take the train that used to take me to Copenhagen every day, or on to my old-old station, Helsingør. Only I could appreciate this moment, but that's also okay!
