my overall thought is that it feels like the target audience is people who have already read the books. all the key points are present but there is a lot of nuance in the details that don’t necessarily come through in the graphic novel.
more specifically though, super interesting the inclusion and highlight on cheng (presumably henry, although i suppose it’s a bit uncertain since there is more than one cheng). that’s something i was talking about before. i was saying that it would have made a lot of sense for henry’s character if he had been seen fraternizing with kavinsky and how that would have established him as a character that was always in the periphery of the gangsey’s sights instead of him popping into existence later on. but the prokopenko erasure does make me a little sad because finding out people can just be dreamt and replaced and bent to their creator’s will was a big part of me realizing the horror of aurora’s existence. although, i suppose it makes sense in the context of the dreamer trilogy which seems to really try to rehabilitate the image of niall and aurora.
which reminds me! we didn’t get to see molotov gansey did we? that’s a bit of a shame. it flattens him a little to be presented solely as the kind of person that blue would like.
also the thing you were talking about - it makes it seem even more jarring in the gn that declan’s assault is put aside in favour of cute date nights and a generally positive portrayal of the gray man after that event. (he doesn’t even beat up the priest!) it makes me wonder if the line about the gray man thinking poorly of niall’s parenting was also included to soften his image. that makes it really interesting in a sort of meta perspective that the gray man is getting the same kind of image rehabilitation that niall gets. so much fun. great for fans of declan suffering :3
