I tried trapping this newbie for a #tnr appointment this morning, but he didn’t show up. I think the rain and a loud semi parked across the street may have kept him away. Sure enough, he showed up this evening for some food! Don’t worry buddy! I won’t give up. Little update on the little marshmallow we trapped the other day. Repost from @luxepaws • It’s taken a couple days to catch a breath, but it was a honor to have local animal welfare hero @tomkiesche come out to do TNR on our trapping Tuesday night. We hit a total of 5 different locations, trapped another 4 female cats on top the 5 Tom trapped. That’s 4 more kitties who won’t be littering the streets with more kittens & as you can see little love nugget Marshmallow needed help badly. Kittens just like Marshmallow are the driving force behind our focus on the TNR. We can prevent all the unwanted litters, we can ease the burden on shelters, we just have to do what it takes to fix cats. Marshmallow will lose her eye, right now she’s too emaciated for any surgery but she’s flea free, she’s been dewormed, she’s on oral & topical antibiotics & pain medication for her eye. We got a mini hiss when we took her out of the trap but within seconds she realized she was safe & started purring. We don’t have a facility, we’re a part time volunteer team so when we have the ability to rescue a kitten like Marshmallow we have to have a foster on call & ready to jump. Fosters, funds for the medical care every kitty we can rescue & ultimately adopters are what makes every rescue a reality. If you can help, there’s links in our profile or go to SaveKittensLA.org. This evening I met with Jacquie from @luxepaws … if you want to know more about what they do… Or how you can help them in their mission, information is on their profile page. Spaying and neutering wild neighborhood cats is important. Keeping the population in check… as wild cats decimate bird populations among other things. One neighborhood cat is cute… 57 is a problem. Step 1. Make sure you have a solid plan on where you are going to take the cats before you trap them. A shelter, rescue, or a clinic. Have it worked out before you trap the cats. Make sure where you plan to take them is copacetic with your idea. Step two. Consider contacting organizations like Luxe Paws or similar in your area. People who do TNR, have vet connections, own traps and have knowledge. Just getting spay and neuter appointments in certain areas is a challenge. Step three: attempt to get spay and neuter programs in your city or town. Your local municipality should be trying to help keep feral cat populations in check. Step four: it’s better to get kittens early than wait till they grow too old. But it’s important also to get mature male and females spay and neutered or else you will continue to have blossoms of kittens. Step five. Learn TNR from someone who knows what they’re doing and don’t ask me… I’m not even a novice. I just did it for a few hours. Big thanks to Jacquie and Luxe Paws for showing me an important process that I had no experience in until tonight. We trapped 5 cats, a little TNR. That’s trap/neuter/return… Or trap/spay/release… Or trap/fix/get medical help/find adopters… One was in need of medical attention. Posted @withregram • @_lovedatlast 11 community cats went for spay/neuter yesterday! 7 girls and 4 boys. Everyone did great and all are officially back at their colony homes tonight. We made great progress at the Lewis colony, snagged 2 newbies from Bobbidy's colony, and got some stragglers at other colonies. Others were supposed to go, but lots of things fell apart and some people were difficult, which left me scrambling and short on cats for the appointments. But that doesn't matter now because these 11 are done and won't be making any babies!! 👏👏 The lady on site at the Lewis colony is super helpful and on top of it, as is Bobbidy's mom. They can always be counted on to lighten my workload when helping cats at those locations. 🥰 Next week another 30 cats will be going in, mainly from 3 colonies. (Yep, I'm going to be very tired by the end of next week!) We are still short sponsors for 3 of this week's crew. Still need to raise $150, then we need to work on $700 for next week's. Thankfully most of next week's are already covered, but we need to pull the rest together.
