I'm new to mcr tumblr and can you pls explain why others use she/her pronouns for Gerard?
oh boy i can sure as hell at least try!
very first thing i wanna bring up is this
some people get really mad at the use of she/her which is. dumb cos gerard has literally said idgaf
now as to why some people use she/her? well that kinda depends
some people only do it for certain versions(?) of gerard (usually the swarm outfits)
some people do it for themselves as a form of affection or simply cos they like it
then theres people who do it because of gerard herself
this last one is a dense topic that i really cant explain in detail in one post but im gonna try to summarize
basically gerard has over the years talked about their relationship with masculinity and femininity and gender very often in ways that lead some people to think she might align with transfemininity
the Big Quoteβ’οΈ that people often reference goes like this "I never really subscribed to the archetype masculinity growing up [β¦] when I discovered the idea of transgenderism I considered myself to be more of a girl. So I identify with trans people and women a lot because I was a girl to a lot of people growing up."
gerard has gone on to describe masculinity as a 'bear trap that stops you from running' theyve also explained that they struggled to write cishet men characters (about The Umbrella Academy) and found herself able to 'speak in [her] own voice' when writing women you can also read some of her songs as metaphors for transidentity and gender struggles (my personal favourite being Emily)
this is already way too long and isnt even the half of whats been said and done (the lola twitter, many more interviews, college 'drag', claudiaβ¦) but im gonna cut it short
one last thing i wanna mention is that gerard has used a lot of feminine language to refer to themselves over the years (i made a little comp of it in this post but again this is not a complete list there are more instances) and would probably not care were she ever to see that people on tumblr use she/her sometimes
perhaps the most important thing tho is that she wont. she wont see that weβre doing this because weβre all just having fun on a fan space that is very separated from all the people we talk about so this really isnt hurting anyone
