๐It was a fun weekend of Pride festivities ๐ฅณ which also had me reflecting back to all the years since I first attended, how things have progressed and currently being regressed by some dark political and religious factions, as well remembering back to a time in the 80โs, deep in my own tormented closet, when I was stuck in traffic and face to face with this massive parade for the first time. ๐ It was a sense of a mix with anger, shame and shun. Thinking out loud, โwhy do they have to shove this in my face?โ I just didnโt get it then. ๐ It took more years of self torture, jealousy, denial and self shame as well one of the darkest periods of my life for which I am grateful I am still alive on earth. I finally acted out on my internal urges. I decided it was time to do it for ME and I will never forget my mantra then was โfuck what anybody else thinks!โ ๐ Even after that release, it took a lot of time to become more comfortable with it, with me and to begin starting to spill the beans. My story like every one elseโs is multifaceted like a diamond ๐ in its glory now yet prior being buried deep and created with insurmountable amounts of pressure buried down in the dark depths below. ๐ I looked around to see so many different types of people, so diverse in color and gender and sexual identity. The festival, bars and parade are now a place for friends of all kinds to gather. Straight friends with gay friends, with trans friends, with bi friends; just friends having fun and being supportive. ๐ I however went solo and over the weekend only saw a few friends making me wonder if many have moved on. One full year without alcohol and this morning I weighed 177.4 lbs! ๐ช๐พ . Last night I did the same as I did last year; stayed home and jammed out to the live webcast of one of my favorite bands, Phish, at Madison Square Garden. Last night I actually wrote a drinking song about not drinking called My Last Drink. ๐ถ๐ฅ๐ซ๐บ๐ถ I didnโt drink during it last year nor this year. Last year I knew I wanted to give up drinking and I had already gone the week without. After the Phish show last year I had thought Iโd head to Topanga but I knew I would drink; would sleep there so I didnโt drive drunk and realized I would start Dec 31st feeling hungover and on a friends couch. ๐ฅด I decided to stay home instead to wake up fresh, at home and in good form to pick up my late friend Danny Miller at the airport. ๐ Since I had not drank for days and was about to give it up for good and since I was staying in that 12/30/17, I chose to have my last drink, 2 Crown Royals ๐ฅ. Enjoyed my last round then went to bed after playing guitar. ๐ธ Thus, Dec 31 2017 was my 1st day of 365 days without alcohol and as Iโve mentioned before, it was my last time I saw my dear friend Danny Miller alive as we and friends rang in the New Years viewing fireworks across the LA skyline and with hope in our hearts. ๐ฅณ So heartbreaking Danny passed away too young just 2 weeks later. ๐ญ๐ Since my dad passed on 12/17/17, I continued to lose more good friends, casual friends, family and also Facebook was relentless with others posts with their losses of friends family & pets. So many pets it seemed died in 2018. Iโm so grateful Iโve helped pull Trick & Treat with me into this new year. ๐ Iโve fully taken to heart each one of my losses as well those of others I know, and each loss has helped me with strength to manifest carpe dium. ๐๐๐ So I wrap this up ever grateful to be alive and loved with some lines from my new song called My Last Drink: โWhen the night fell I rose to the challenge To repair who I was And repair all the damage. Another new LA Fitness opened up near me in Tarzana Ca and I checked it out only :40 minutes from when they opened for the 1st time.
