This is the oldest locomotive in Belgium and one of the oldest preserved rail vehicles in the world. The unusual shape of the boiler, especially the fire box, is based on the use of coke to operate this locomotive. Coke burns with very low smoke emission and emits less soot and sulphur. This was a more pleasant experience for passengers at a time when some of the wagons attached to the locomotive were still without a roof. But coke is much more expensive than coal and quickly became unattractive.
