Everything that is great about Haru no Noroi
Premise
Soft spoilers here but I think it worth, mainly because I had skipped this manga because of a poor description of the sinopse.
The premise seems to belong to a latin telenovela or a Iranian drama movie: the young Haru passed away leaving her cold groom, Tougo, and her beloved big sister, Natsumi. The engagement was arranged, it is important to mention this, but Haru really fell in love for the young man in short time they have together. Whatever, since the marriage always a policial thing Natsumi have to replace her, so she and Tougo have to pretend the date thing while they deal with the mourning.
How the melodrama is driven
The first chapter is already very dark and we are introduce, directly, to the relationship of Natsumi and Haru. They were very close and each other best friends, and the premature death affect Natsumi deeply, but it is just the Tip of the iceberg.
Instead keep this sad and dark mood all over the narrative, the author balance the sentimental atmosphere, conducing things without exaggeration or minimize the pain and the traumas of the characters.
Tougo and Natsumi POV are interleaved and we kinda have a "pilot twist" with a chapter of Haru POV. And how the really conflict is reveled is so impacted and brilliant. Everyone should have expect a love triangle while read this, and actually there is but it not play how we expect.
Deep characters
All the characters are nuanced, even the one who play a small role. But the protagonist are hypnotizing. Mainly Natsumi that is a cheerful and extravert person (very different of the personality that the cover suggest) and it is touching see what kind of person she is. Because she is wonderful without being forced or idealistic.
We can see she being like this
And even so acting like this
Her personality brings lightness to the narrative in the same time it contrary male protagonist stoicism. I think Natsumi is really enthralling character and you quickly fall for her, and I think that is why is so easy buy the fascination she exhales. She is a incredible female protagonist and immune of this "pixie dream girl" bullshit.
And talking about it the dynamic between her and Tougo, all I have to say is it really works. The way the story is told it easily could have been awkward and forced since they have opposite personalities, but when you read their scenes and mainly Tougo dialogs you will understand what I am talking about.
Details
I don't need even to explain. Unusual drawing style where the details talk to themselves and give us clues about the characters unspoken feelings
The fragility of manhood
Tougo was more complex than I thought. He was apathetic without being a asshole, I think that a thing the dark man trope need to understand. You can be introspective and caring.
In his case what call my attention was how he face his life. He doesn't seems to have own will, he always was a obedient, exemplar employee but different from Natsumi he never had a clear objetive. Never really think about what he wants or desire, he even agree to get marry with someone her mom chose to him.
And more time your spend in this guy heard more you understand, and even reflex how many people in real would are like him. Live in automatic mode.
And another thing that make this character deeper than he seems is how he deal with his feeling, what reflected how manhood deal with vulnerability, love and kindness. Really, we need a post talking about fragility and masculinity one day, mainly in eastern midia.
And guys will love his character development, because it is a scientific fact that we love to see cold characters meet their feelings.
Concluding read it! Really people, read it now.
Oso has a nightmare and accidently wakes the others up. They try to ask what happened and comfort him, but Oso won't admit he got scared even though he clearly did.
Oooh, I really liked this idea. Here’s something for that.
WARNING for mentions of Tougo under the cut:

Manga Recommendation!
One of the real gems I’ve found recently is Haru no Noroi by Asuka Konishi. It’s an emotional story about a woman, Natsumi, who loses her beloved younger sister to cancer. She begins seeing her younger sister’s fiance after his family insist that they marry in order to merge the families. It’s a gripping manga with fresh themes and ideas.
Unfortunately, only the first two chapters have been scanlated and there doesn’t seem to be any plans to release an official english manga. Too bad- It’s an unique Josei manga with interesting and different art and tackles some really interesting subject matter. Not to mention, Just in chapter 1 Natsumi already has more depth and relatability than most female manga characters have in short run manga (And honestly, in most mainstream anime). I could really see myself in Natsumi.
Lol, that was a long post- sorry about that. Enjoy some art for an obscure Josei Manga!
LEON parody touoso^^
Let’s see here, a blog, that’s perfect for my angsty ass self? All for it! So how about a scenario of how the other brothers would feel if Tougou ended up killing osomatsu when they were kids?
Sorry this took some time to write, I wanted to treat it as well as I could since it’s a sensitive topic and I didn’t want to handle it badly. Hopefully this turned out well enough.
Please don’t hesitate to message me if more tags are needed!!!
HEAVY WARNING for mentions of death/child death, murder, and Tougo under the cut:
