Due to a series of bloody events, you were forced to team up with Klaus and Elijah again. The others always made a big deal about it, moaning and groaning and wishing there was any other option, but it never really bothered you. You knew what both men were capable of, of course you did, but as long as you needed each other, there was no reason to think they'd hurt any of you. Klaus was a bit of a wild card at times but you knew what Elijah's word meant to him so you believe him when he promised no harm would come to you.

You were all in the town square during another Mystic Falls it's-Tuesday-so-we're-having-a-get-together-for-the-entire-town festival of some kind. You stood between Elijah and Elena as Damon and Stefan explained their plan. While they were talking, you held onto Elena's arm over her shirt sleeve. She didn't seem to mind but when the two of you had to walk ahead, she held her hand out to you instead.

That was the first time they noticed.

The next was a few days later. You were walking alongside Jeremy when you gently held onto the slightly baggy sleeve of his jacket. Your fingers slipped a little as you continued and he turned to you.

"Hey, wanna just hold my hand?"

Elijah noticed the way you hesitated, like you wanted to say no but didn't want to upset anyone.

The last time was later that afternoon.

You, Bonnie and Klaus had to research a spell. You often helped Bonnie with things like that and it was an ancient spell so everyone thought who better than Klaus to help the two of you. Well actually, everybody else hated the idea, but he made a compelling argument.

You were standing around Bonnie's desk when you held onto her sleeve, more a subconscious thought than anything else at this point. She looked up from her book, not upset, just curious.

"Hey, why do you do that?"

"Do what?"

"Grab people's sleeves. Wouldn't it just be easier to hold hands?"

"Um, I guess. I don't know" You looked down a little "I guess I just do the sleeve thing"

Klaus looked at you with intrigue, making a mental note of your behaviour.

After that day, every time you saw Elijah or Klaus, they always wore long sleeves. It took you a while to notice, especially with Elijah, but eventually you realized the change in their behaviour and smiled every time you thought of it.

The two of them would always stand next to you no matter the situation. They'd stand straight and tall, occasionally even pushing their arms out a little further than they would naturally in the hope you'd hold onto their sleeves. It even became a little competition between the brothers, trying to see how many times you grabbed their shirt sleeves throughout the week, both trying to outdo the other.

It didn't take long for it to just become a part of your everyday lives. You, latched onto one of their sleeves and them, watching you fondly from the corner of their eyes.
