I did it? I finished a series of art work thingies? Behold Reeza. I did it. I drew her. She was probably the most difficult to draw. I don’t know if that’s because I’m real busy for an unemployed person rn or something else but I did it. I’ll post all of them in one post at some point. Probably. I’m contemplating making a separate art blog so it might be after that gets made.

Anyway, this post is about Reeza, not my schedule. There is a particular central theme to Reeza’s character that really interests me but it’s not one I can articulate super well in English because the best words for it are from my other two languages. But I’ll loosely translate them as ‘habitat’. Instead of home in the English sense it’s more a familiar place you are rooted to that forms part of your identity. Reeza’s relationship with her cultural origins is so very complex. There are times when it’s a great comfort to her (I loved the part where she finds the ocean comforting as a reminder of her home), but also so many times where it’s something quite unpleasant for her. And the mix of being respected but unwelcome by her people is an extension of this.
